    Google had intermittent issues today.

    Youtube
    Google Home
Google Email (web and via app)
    Google DNS

Seems to have been clear since 9am EST.

Interesting when I see big outages I can't help but wonder how much is infrastructure and how much is hacking, causing the issues.

I missed this outage but a few weeks ago youtube was down with videos endlessly loading. We actually recent subscribed to Premium as all 4 of us use youtube and the ads seemed to have become more invasive.

I believe that my mother might be the culprit.
She is always in fear when it comes to moden media. Maybe she pushed a wrong combination of keys on her computer and acccidentally shut down the internet.

As a moderator, I don’t think that discussing an outage is political. If someone tries to tie it to some political entity, I would consider that to be political.

The place I worked updated their system software didn't use new hardware proven to work with it but decided to use hardware that was never tested but they already had. Yea six months of hell, no billing was possible, and worse. Took over a year to sort it all out. I always wonder what updates or hackers have done to create these issues.

The complexity of the computer world has spun out of control, at this point. Minor updates can trigger a cascade of problems. I've seen updates do some very strange things and the reason is that the complexity is beyond the comprehension of any one human. Change Control boards help, but are far from foolproof. For years, I have had serious concerns about these matters, but one lone IT guy can't change the world.

    To err is human.
To really screw things up takes a computer.

We really put far too much trust into computers and the interwebs. Anonymous hackers are everywhere, worldwide., sometimes government run. Trust no one.

Computers don't make mistakes. They just reveal the mistakes that their human masters/slaves program. Often over and over again.

I would almost disagree with that, but it is hard.

As an insider, I couldn’t agree more. I’m bound by several NDAs, so I can’t be specific, but I’ve witnessed some very small things cause some large problems. Updates can cause something that had worked just fine to cease working. As bad as it is with operating systems and applications, network equipment is even worse. I’ve seen networks and phone systems dropped to their knees by simple, simple changes.

25 years ago, I was just beginning to use the Internet, over a dial-up connection and it was little more than a novelty. I was a fairly early adopter and leveraged it, but in 1995 I would never have imagined the extent to which the Internet would affect everyone’s life.

I live in the world of networking and wide-area connections, but I’m very concerned that we have placed too much trust in all of this.
