We play a mix of originals and covers. We are trying to get our originals catalog up to snuff right now. The covers we do range from obscure rockabilly to more popular tunes that casual listeners might know.
We play local and area bars, parties, and events. We've been doing more and more festivals lately. I prefer them to playing bars. 5 or 6 hundred guaranteed to play for an hour is definitely better than a typical Friday night playing 3 to 4 hours for door.
We mainly do it for fun, and as long as I'm not going in the hole it's all good.
I work during the week to pay the bills. I live on the weekends. I love being a gospel musician. As I tell my local buddies, "I gig for God." The bluegrass group is talking about maybe getting out to the some of the local parks and providing music in the summer time.
When you find something you really love to do, it isn't work...it's FUN!
where is the "all of the above" button
I use to play clubs, bluegrass doings and Arts in the park here in town along with a few family reunions. My singer doesn't think he needs to practice and can't keep a regular beat on guitar, so I stopped playing. Now I play more for a hobby.
Exactly. Also, I play in three different groups... all of them mixing originals with covers.
The Exotic Ones-- a strange mix of punk, rockabilly, surf and straight-ahead rock & roll.
The Secret Commonwealth-- another genre-blending band, primarily traditional Celtic music mixed with Americana, "pub punk" (think Pogues) and other "world music".
I also play as a side-man for Uncle Don Clark-- which is primarily original Americana music.
Been hosting a Pro Blues Jam every Wednesday at Hollywood's Pig 'N Whistle for a couple of years, maybe 2 other gigs a month as a sub/ accompanist.
