We're pleased to have Dan Duffy, a 14-year veteran of Gretsch Guitars become part of Gretsch-Talk. Dan worked in QC at Gretsch from the 50's to the 70's and signed off on thousands of wonderful "vintage" Gretschs.

Use this Forum to ask Dan questions about vintage Gretsch guitars.

Welcome Dan, Did you have anything to do with this?

Yes I did. I brought my Les Paul into the factory one day and we copied it.
I can't see if The fingerboard extension is sitting on top of the guitar but it should be. If you have a picture of the neck fit to the body I would like to see it. The guitar was designed for more sustain. Dan Duffy

That Tailpiece and bridge combo is the best(in my opinion)for solid body guitars. What year was this made? The rod in the neck runs the whole lenth of the neck-not just to the 12 or 14 fret like most guitars. The 1st sample of this guitar was made around 1959.
The factory manager was out sick so i had the forman make this up. this is a good guitar - I wish I had one. Dan

I'm sure it is a 1978 Roc Jet. I put the bigsby on can't stand a Gretsch without a Bigsby. I figured since it was black and wasn't a perfect guitar anyway two easily filled bigsby screw holes on black no big deal. Also, I did find a Gretsch bridge that was a perfect fit on the stock pins. So it can be put back to the original bad ass type bridge real easy.

Nice. My first Gretsch was a 1974 Roc Jet in brown. It had the typical Baldwin style pickguard and Supertron pickups. Someone had stuck a badass bridge on it but it still had a G-tailpiece when I got it(1984). About a year later I stuck a B5 on it(wrong Bigsby...shoulda got a B3 but I didn't know this way back then). Nice guitar; kept it a couple of years but sold it when I went in the service.
Still got a coupla pics around here somewhere; have to dig out the photo albums and put one on the scanner(to soothe the Juke man doncha know).
