I can’t remember the last time I wore a watch. I have no need for one. The few times a week I actually need to know the specific time I check my phone.
My brother ....are you in the Craft ?For my 40th birthday last month my beloved gave me this neat mechanical watch. New old stock from the soviet union with a very comfortable leather NATO strap.

That's a sharp looking watch
Love that Ford Pocket watch ......and Mickey tooMy accumulation is not as grand as some here, but this is what I’ve got for show and tell today.
L-R:
My dad’s HS grad 1925 Illinois pocket watch with fob; My mom’s 1929 HS grad Paul Vallette wrist watch; my 1934 Mickey with original child’s strap with Small Mickeys attached; a modern Mickey and a Modern Minnie; Ford pocket watch, which I carried until it stopped working; and a Portland Bolt wrist watch -former client for which I designed their logo in 1972. (Also showing a closeup of the vintage Ingersoll Mickey. Note the mice running around on the second hand dial).

So you did know the difference.
That's an amazing collection . I absolutely love a pocket watch . I have one coming in the mail this week I bought on line . Although the seller said it may need a battery , the watch just reminds me of my grandfather . He worked for NY Central Rail Road and this is a Pennsylvania Rail Road watch ( although just a novelty ) I'll PM you a photo when it arrivesI wear a watch, in pocket. An Elgin Grade 82 in a Waltham open face coin silver case. I don't wear it as much anymore as it needs a good overhaul when I have the spending money.
I'd also like to get a wrist watch for the few months where it's too hot to hear a waistcoat.
Probably an old WWI trench watch or the Bulova 96A206. Most likely the former.
Would love to see itAn Elgin Grade 82 in a Waltham open face coin silver case.
Nothing fancy ?? That sure is a pretty one that Elgin . Thanks for noting mine , like I said , I've yet to see a prettier face than my Bercona . But then again , my high school sweetheart had given it to me .View attachment 173884

Nothing fancy. Very much a form over function piece. She sees plenty of use and abuse.
I've always been a fan with the watch face design that your Bercona has.
I hope you're happy with your new watch.

Going to PM you .....I think I've seen a design like that one before. Those old Soviet watches are some cool timepieces.
My ol’ lady found it on etsy. It’s a Czech company that bought a mess of new old mechanical soviet watches. Pretty neat.I think I've seen a design like that one before. Those old Soviet watches are some cool timepieces. My friend but a Molnija a while back, but ended up getting screwed over on it. Was advertised as professionally serviced but it didn't run when he got it and the crown snapped off.
I'm definitely gonna need one someday.
Agreed. Gruen had a very strong flair for design in this era. I love a Pentagon, and Gruen was very proud of that design. Here is a picture of some of the Gruen pocket watches that I restored to running condition...The ornate 1920's to 1930's in the center are some of my favorites.
I occasionally think about getting a three-piece suit specifically for the purpose of being able to wear a pocket watch properly. I have a circa 1915 14k gold Howard that belonged to my great great uncle. Or I could go the easier route and just get a lapel chain.I'd also like to get a wrist watch for the few months where it's too hot to hear a waistcoat.
Dive watches are mystifying to me. As a dedicated Gruen man, my focus is on their pre-Curvex Gruen Guild era, but I also get the collectors who view the Curvex era as Gruen's pinnacle. Almost no Gruen aficionado has much interest in anything past the 1950s, when the original company folded. Yet, the 1960s Ocean Chief steel dive watch, basically a run of the mill sweep seconds round watch with a big diver bezel, is somehow more valuable than my solid gold art deco marvels. It's a completely different market than Gruen collectors that drive that price up. And other Gruen dive watches don't command anywhere near that kind of money. It's a complete mystery to me. And I know the same is true of other brands.OH MAN!! I used to collect Seiko Divers! but I stopped right before the addiction could really sink me financially!
Or I could go the easier route and just get a lapel chain.
