First a big thanks to @Merc for PMing me about these tuners early this year.

He saw these on sale and remembered that my original '82 tuners were giving me heck. A whole lot of slop going on.

Yes they were on my list, so I ordered a set. $39.95 shipped. Fender (Gotoh) Vintage Style, drop in fit, and a 15:1 tuner ratio vs the originals 10:1 ratio. New screws and tuner bushings included.

My lucky day was today. An easy, small project, with a good surprise.

Removed the old set and cleaned up the headstock. Left the original bushings in.

Dropped the new tuners in and BINGO, they work perfectly, no slop with the original bushings and used the original screws. Very nice turning feel on each tuner. Somewhat stiff feeling, but very smooth.

I really didn't want to remove the bushings in the first place. Even removing them correctly, I'm sure some of that '82 lacquer would chip. Play wear is good. Project wear is damage to my silly mind! Lol

Going to clean everything up and restring this weekend. Not pushing my luck with anything more today.

    Oldies off

Thanks again @Merc for being nice enough to reach out and jog my mind.

I love this place. Lot's of cool folks.

Thanks. Here's a few of the back installed. One just a hair off, just like the old one was! Lol

Any hardware swap that goes smoothly is such a relief. It’s so aggravating that guitar hardware isn’t more standardized and when you end up with a “close but not quite” situation.

Lookin’ sweet!! Love the look of the old school tele tuners.

When I had my custom Esquire built I wanted lockers since it has a B5.
I was originally going to get the new style fender locking tuners, but found these gotoh’s instead.
They look vintage, but they’re certainly not!

Hey that looks great!! Gotta love it when it works out so well... and yep, good folks here willing to help out. Good on @radd for the suggestion.
You could say that the one "out of line " is a deliberate thing from the original... historically a certain population of artists always made a deliberate small "imperfection" in their art - because perfection was the domain of the diety not to be tresspassed by mere mortals. Just a thought... :p Personally I have never come close enough to worry about it...

    Well done

Thanks. The new ones just fell right into the finish impressions that came from Fullerton.

Ain't messing with that, just happy to keep the history going. Lol

Looking sweet on yours too. Best of both worlds for a locker on a Tele.

You’re welcome with the sale notification and that I could help. It’s always a relief when everything lines up perfectly during the replacement too.

Let’s see the whole 82 Tele once it’s strung! :)

Will do, but only the neck is an '82 Fender. It's on an early 2k Warmoth body.

    Thanks again

Ooops! Sorry guys, my mistake. It was @Merc that suggested the tuners... must have been late or something

I doubt if there're 'original' Klusons?
I mean I bought these on eBay described as 'original', and the box says 'Made in Korea'.
I did buy 2x sets as they were a good price, so fitted one set and kept these as spares.
I must say the fitted ones are holding up well though, no problems. IMG_8812.jpg IMG_8813.jpg IMG_8814.jpg
