It's a fake. Poor copy at best.
You got your money's worth if it was free.

That's a great gift! I'm sure the experts will chime in with details.

    EDIT: ups...

Hate to say it, but yes, that's not a Gretsch.

    Enjoy the gifting.

Yes, it is a fake Gretsch. But that said, it can become a one-of-a-kind-to-your-taste fake Gretsch too...

I mean : this guitar is certainly a good modifications platform - after confirmation, of course.

I have a similar example - in LH, so much more rare ;) :

Before - a wannabee Tennessee Rose Thinline:

After - still awaiting her custom transparent engraved pickguard :

    A+!

Hello friend and welcome to the forum .
Sorry to say also it's not a Gretsch but a knock off / copy . It's all right there in the seal number . But it's still nice to be gifted a guitar no matter what type of guitar it is . How about some more photo's . I bet it's a beauty :)

@Georgie394 , I'm just curious .... how did you look up the serial number to date it as a 1969 Gretsch ?

A late '60s serial number starting with "119" could translate to November of 1969 (or January of 1971, for that matter).

No surprise, the Dutch serial number site does not recognize that number.

Yes both of the above are definatly fake!
There are loads of things about them that is just so wrong, others have already mentioned in more detail.

It's very annoying that people even try to sell that stuff!
