I'm sure it's way worse by 2021.
You know you have a problem when you need three sets of strings and you put in three separate orders.
Your string of choice?
And if you scan that counterfeit first, the legit one gets rejected. Lovely.
Yes - but the best workaround is a taste tester. I PM’d you my address. You pay shipping, I’ll take care of the rest.
Now the counterfeiters know exactly what to fix...
Not directly apropos, but of interest vis-a-vis guitar strings:
As a kid, I bought Black Diamonds at Sears.
As to my scanning service, I believe the customer is always right, so you are 100% guaranteed to get the results you expect.
Don't know why the scanning comment appeared her - it was meant to be in references to that video...
Hope the real owner scans first. Otherwise, the counterfeit gets registered!
I order a lot from Juststrings. I guess at this point I'm hoping they order direct.
But you've just introduced me to string makers I didn't know existed - how cool is that!
(Update) Anyone else verifying your strings aren’t counterfeit?
Well, to be honest : never !
In fact, I did not even thought about that...
Should I ?
I buy my strings from my local dealer, who get them from the regular importer of the brand.
Nothing scarce though : Dean Markley or Ernie Ball 10-52 Lt Top Hvy Btm, spare 10 from d'Addario.
The counterfeited ones have the same QR code with every set. They can't collect thousands of real ones. They use the one that was on the package they copied.
No. All my strings come in bulk from Thomann Germany. Best prices I’ve seen and even if they weren’t I wouldn’t really care. I bring a box along every time I go to the island.
For a week or so there's been an ad on CL by a guy selling a bunch of new guitar strings. I was wondering what was up, just now realized that he's probably selling fakes.
.... I'm going through my picks now to see if they are counterfeit....
I suspect my fingers are counterfeit. As they do not produce the sounds I'm imagining they should...
That would be terrible.
Don’t buy from Amazon, go directly to the manufacturer online or your local guitar dealer who is authorized., they usually have deals on sets.
