In my case, the closest store is over 40 miles away. I use Strings by Mail, and have for years. They’ve given me excellent service and their prices are good.

I checked with Sweetwater and was assured that they get their strings from the manufacture not a third party....I will stick with Sweetwater.

BTW there's no guarantee the strings in your local shop wouldn't be counterfeit as well.

I get all my genuine strings from my local guitar shop, that thankfully made it thru the pandemic strong.
I like to at least buy my strings there since I seem to order all my other gear online.

M y local shop I have been going to for 45 yrs never has the strings or picks I want. However, I have bought many guitars and amps from them and will continue to do so. I love the place

I'm not sure that is true about Gibson, they just went through a restructuring.

It's been shown in other areas (computers, bicycle parts, prescription drugs, etc) that buying from the big companies is safest as they are less likely (because of dealing direct with the manufacturers) to be selling fakes.

I don't want to hurt the business of the local shops so would still buy there but they need to be careful where they get the product they are stocking. No small orders from amazon or alixxxx, they should be buying from the large wholesalers (which they have probably been doing anyway).

Sweetwater assures me they get their candy from official sources.

Indeed. There would have to be easier strings to counterfeit than DÁddario. The packaging, airtight packets and printing along with the different color ball ends
all suggest to me that maybe something else is behind this little publicity exercise?

I sometimes worry that I order just to get the candy. It's something I'd never buy but I dive right into the Smarties and Bit O' Honey everytime!

Yeah, my local shop JUST started carrying my picks (Herco Flax 50’s). They never had them before.
One less thing I have to order online.

As long as we keep matters straight. :)

I heard that they might formally change their name to Chibson in order to cash in on the cachet of those fakes. :)

Funny that. I guess counterfeiting lower end stuff is the way to go since it draws less attention.

You got it. For only $18.00, I’ll verify Black Diamond strings. :)
