Three weeks ago our tax office informed me that I had to make a substantial additional payment so I decided to part with some gear to drum up the money for it.

Among that stuff there was a Fender Blues jr. that I really do not play anymore. I advertized it for EUR 500.

Someone who lived 300 km away from my home rang me up and told me that he was interested in buying it.
He told me that he would pay cash or will offer a swap if I would be interested in some musical gear that he has stored in his attic. He suggested that we divide the money for my gasoline in half if I would deliver the amp to him.

Since the weather was fine I accepted, opened the roof of my old cabriolet and off I went.

When I arrived there he took me to a dusty junk room where he had stored all kinds of musical instruments. From a old organ to a cello to some uninteresting solidbodies and acoustics. Everything dusty and ragged.
Among this mess was a case that looked like it belonged to a Gibson Flying.

As some of you know I always had a sweet tooth for Flying Vs and already own a wonderful 70ies speciem.

So curiously I opened the case and found a 2006 V "New Century" limited edition with all plasics in mirror-style. (Google told me that they only built 400 of them. 200 with carbon-look plastics ad 200 with mirrored plastics.)
The guitar appeared to be dusty but obviously nearly unplayed. No dings and dongs and no fretwear at all. The only flaw was a small crack in the pickguard at the input-jack.
I told him that nothing of his gear was teasing me to make a swap except the mirror Flying.
Knowing that this guitar was worth at least twice the money I asked for my Blues jr. I was very surprised when he told me that this horse-trade was o.k. for him.
    WHAT???
He told me that he was the first owner and never got used to the awkward shape until the electronics went defective. His unsuccessful attempt to repair it ended with a crack in the pickguard.
So the guitar went directly into his closet and sat there until now.

So we shook hands and I drove back home without cash but with a new guitar.

Today I cleand it, polished the otherwise like-new frets, put some Viol on the fretboard, repaired a short in the electronics, gave it a new setup and new strings.
As always with a Gibson I noticed some sloppy work like crooked routings for the pickguard and some other idiot-stuff that passed the QC of the factory.
Don`t know how to keep this mirror clean and free of fingerprints but it sure looks spectacular.
I have not played it through my regular amp but it sounded quite o.k. at bedroom-level loudness.
Big chunky neck with a beautiful chocolat-coloured rosewood fretboard.

If I don`t bond with it I can sell it for much more than my Blues jr. was worth.
This could possibly be a great backup for my 70ies V.
Can`t wait to check it through my "big" gear.

    Greetings from "Lucky-Frank".

Windex? Any decent glass cleaner should work. To be really safe, you could just use deionized water and a microfiber cloth.
    Have fun playing that!

  20. That is cool for sure. Never had one at home, only played a few knock offs in stores. Not the best couch guitar, but its too cool to care.
