The blender pot almost serves as another tone control, and for me helps thicken up the tone while taming shrill overtones. Mind you this is on single coil guitars so FilterTrons might be a bit different. However, I do have a 5 way Freeway switch in my parts bin that I've been waiting for the right project to try out...maybe this is it?

We've supplied some 3 X TV Jones pickup combinations to some pro bands here in the UK and it's generally been neck, neck, bridge. A classic+ will have slightly higher output than a regular classic even allowing for less string movement in bridge position. I personally wouldn't use one in middle position. Supertrons pair well with Classic+ pickups as although lower DC resistance, blades create more inductance and higher output. Other advantage of Supertrons is that regular Filtertrons are sensitive to string spacing -pole pieces under strings whereas blades on Supertrons negates this. Also allow better for string bending acrobatics.

For cleaner playing, would use Classic neck, Classic neck & Classic bridge. If using more gain would consider Supertron neck, Supertron neck and Classic+ bridge.

    Hope that helps.

How about three Supertrons? Cool looks, a focused pickup that sounds a bit gainy and very smooth.

A Supertron is in my future. They just look too cool not have at least one on this build.

Question about controls. Would the bridge pickup benefit from a dedicated tone control? If so I'll probably swap out the blender pot and wire everything up Gilmore style with a toggle switch. I do love toggles :) .

Classic, Supertron, Classic+ would be interesting.

I've widdled down the pickup options to the choices below. I figure I can't go wrong with any combination, and if it doesn't work out I'll just swap them.

    Option 1 - Classic, Suptertron, Classic +
Option 2 - Duotron, Supertron, Duotron

Both should sound great clean, both should be able to rock, and both will look cool as heck.

DuoTrons are amazing and the bridge DuoTron is fairly hot. That might be a fun combination.

I pulled the trigger on option 2: Duotron, Supertron, Duotron.

Also, I decided to keep the wiring simple...basic Nashville Tele style:

    5 - Bridge
    4 - Bridge + Middle
3 - Bridge + Neck / Toggle for Middle Alone
    2 - Middle + Neck
    1 - Neck

Parts should be arriving over the next few weeks, and I'll report back when the build kicks off.

Awesome. Those are great pickup options, though I would not call it simple. You have all possible pickuo combinations except all on or all off (which is not particularly useful).

Well...it didn't take long until my wife decided for the both of us, that this build will be hers :) . I'll circle back with build updates...but...now I want a 3x Cabronita for myself :) .

Wheels are already spinning, and I'm toying with a Supertron, T90, Classic + combo. Any reason the T90 wouldn't play nice in the middle (or neck) position? This would be a dad rock rig to bang out some power chords without going too heavy. Something about that filtertron size P90 has my attention.

Single coils and humbuckers can be dicey. I’ve seen it work, but I’ve seen it not work, too.

    Quick response from TVJ:

"I think the T90 in the middle would be a great choice---adding to tonal palette the guitar could achieve. As it is in single coil, it wouldn't be hum-canceling, but would still sound fabulous. A Classic would certainly work, but I think the T90 is a brilliant option."

What would TV Jones know about it? :)

I’d take that as cast in stone. They are good folks up there.
