Got sick of looking at the Squier Custom Modified hanging on the wall so decided to make it useful. Got it at a price I couldn't resist with the intention of using it on those gigs and jams where the nice axes are overkill but the neck is a toothpick and the 'buckers were boring so it gathered dust. Filtertrons and a WD neck seem to be the temporary cure. In time I will probably do up a proper pickguard to eliminate the bezels and maybe add a Bigsby. The electronics are sketchy too, but for now it is a nice option when I need a Gretsch-y tone without wheeling in the Caddy!

    Cheers,

Nice! It's a Squier Vintage Modified... so does it have the 9.5" or 7.25" neck on it? Can't really tell from the pics, but at first glance I'd say 9.5".

To be perfectly honest, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was one of Jukebox's threads where he got in a hurry and misspelled "Gretsch". :D

Get a Bigsby on it, should be fun. You can get Tele fittings, so you can add a B50 without drilling holes. Easily removable.

But Marlin, what if he wants a Floyd Rose instead? :)

WHy would he want the hasle of living with a Floyd Rose? I did the whole floyd Rose thing as a young man about town. It was there, but I didn't use it much, and had to put up with tuning the flippin' thing every 5 mins. A pain......and changing strings takes an age.

I use the Bigsby more than I've ever used a floyd rose, and they're a hell of a lot easier to live with, and far more pleasing to the ear....

I've grown to love the Bigsby so much, I wouldn't consider buying a Gretsch without one.

and.....they look particularly good on a tele!

Thanks for the positive comments all. I am kind of warming up to the bezels, seems to emphasize the "Gretsch" vibe a bit. I'll keep an eye out for a deal on some arrow knobs and a metal selector cap to round it out.

Ack! Had Rose equipped guitars in the 80's and will be quite happy to never lay hands on one again. Just looking at them makes me angry. Besides, doing dive bombs in your 40's ain't cool 'round here...

If you could live with the stock neck (not bad, just narrow for my paws) then this would be quite a cheap build. Can't throw a guitar pick at the classifieds without hitting a Squier Modified!

    Cheers.

yah, I was mostly kidding. dont think the radius or board width (towards the high frets) would work out for a floyd, their string spacing gets really wide at the bridge, and I doubt the bridge bucker would have the spacing width to it either.

It is a WD Strat neck, haven't measured the radius but my guess is 12". Seems flatter than my Am Standard Strat (9.5").
