This is/was (arguably) the WORST record ever made....

Who remembers the totally bizarre, off-the-wall, extremely erratic, non rhythmic, album by the 3 sisters called THE SHAGGS back in 1968?

I looked them up, and they seriously, had NO musical skill. NO training or lessons. Nothing.... They DID have a very rich father, who (according legend) bought the instruments and told the girls "...figure it out", and then bought some studio time and they made an album.

Frank Zappa (back then with the Mothers of Invention) admired the sheer audacity of the 3 sisters to go ahead with untuned guitars, sour vocals, and a drummer playing about 6 different random rhythm patterns. But then, Zappa wouldn't even attempt to play something as whacked out as this song!!!:D

  2. This will probably top the charts now that its been resurrected. I ran an open mike for a while. Met a lot of musicians, from this style to spectacular players that only play at home yet put most to shame. It struck me that people that had a sound like this were also the least shy. I say more power to them. There have been nights after gigs i played that i though we sounded exactly like this, but my wife would say we sounded great. I am keeping this link to play to band members after gigs to show them how we sounded.

That's so bad it's kind of compelling, like watching a really bad B movie.

Bless their little hearts. No sense in trying if you know you can't.

But are there really people who are that unmusical or were they just not willing to try?

It`s a challenge for all people that are not deaf and blind.
Hear the album in full length and get a free chocolate-garlic bar.

Believe it or not, My Pal Foot Foot is one of the better tunes on it! Try making it thru the title track - Philosophy of the World. Ha! Classic bad record, but the worst? Some might say they get some competition from the Legendary Stardust Cowboy ...

Keep in mind, this one is considered an early psychobilly gem by some, by others just a horrible song. I kinda like it. That's T-Bone Burnett on drums !

I love your comment, playing in the Wedding Band circuit we had a lot of "experts" come up to the mic and showcase their talents. I did love their bravery, but sometimes I think putting those plastic colorful toothpicks in our eardrums would have been less painful...thanks for making me laugh.

    And let's not forget Lou Reed's 1975 masterpiece ...

... which I think was the inspiration for more than a few of Sonic Youth's more ... eh, "experimental" albums.

( btw Ozz, that's a great New Yorker piece about the reunion. I didn't know they did that. That must have been so completely weird! - thx for posting)
