How come you never see Bigsby B4 or B9?

    There’s gotta be more to the story than B3, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 16 at random

Kalamazoo series, not Lightning (import) series

    Good question!

    Apparently the B2 was a Guild-branded variation on the B6, and the B9 was a Guild-branded B7. Not sure about the B4.

Slightly irrelevant but boss rarely have a 1 -Ds-1 and ch-1 being exceptions. Apparently they found people would wait for the 2: bd-2 etc.

Chanel No.5 usually is the only one in the row, too. There just aren't all numbers in use, it seems, some for a reason, some without.

Sometimes, numbers also are a code of some of the item's properties.

Sometimes, cars have weird names, too ... Toyota France didn't sell too much MR-2, it is said (although I doubt who was interested in one cared too much...).

So this is a B2, huh? You know, I've had this thing for 20+ years and never knew exactly what to call it! Now I do - thanks!

That's fascinating - just looked it up in Wiki. Worth the read.

I want to see a Bigsby B16b - like a B16 with all the extra junk cut off, so you could use it with just about any plank guitar (other than something like an offset).

And what's with this WD-40 stuff? Where are the first 39?

It stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula. First one that worked.
Originally used by NASA to keep the Mercury era rockets drier.

    Just like Preparation H. A thru G didn't work.
We have A-1 Sauce. Did it right the first time, so they didn't need B-2.

I pitched that to Bigsby at the NAMM show a few years ago, and was shot down pretty quick.

We might get a different answer now that Fender owns Bigsby, especially since a B16 chop is so perfect for a Telecaster.

So, guitarcheologists, we have accounted for:

    B2 Guildsby B6
    B3 standard short body
    B4 ?
B5 flat horseshoe with string retainer bar
    B6 standard large body
    B7 B3 + string retainer bar
    B8 ?
    B9 Guildsby B7
    B10 ?
    B11 - oval cut
B12 - oval cut with retainer bar
    B13?
    B14?
    B15?
    B16 - telecaster housing

I for one would certainly love it if they offered a factory chopped B16.

So a somewhat related yet tangential question:
Will the Guildsbys accept replacement Bigsby arms w/o modification?

I could test this myself but if anyone knows already it'd be great not to have to :)

I think on the old ones, the parts are probably compatible. I won’t venture a guess on the new Guildsby models without knowing where they are made.

***Edit - the new Guildsbys on the Newark Collection models are import models. Search your replacement parts accordingly

"Guitarcheologists" is my new favourite word.

We can also add the B3C, B3G, B6C, and B6G: V-cut Gretsch-branded B3s and B6es in chrome and gold, respectively.

Given the fact that Guildsbys were given a separate model number, eg, B2 instead of B6, I wonder if our beloved v-cuts actually belong to some of our mystery models?
