Had a notification pop up on my phone earlier that's it has been 2 years since we (Ignition) released our track 'The Cats Are Back' - Our little tribute to the Stray Cats, celebrating their 40th anniversary tour. I'd been messing around with the guitar parts for a little while and, not long after the new album and tour was announced, sat playing them at my Dad's house. He asked what it was and said that it sounded like a bit of a play on Stray Cat Strut (hard to argue with that one...). I told him that I had no idea what it was called or what it was about and he said: "You should write about the Cats and call it 'The Cats Are Back'!

I distinctly remember my reply being along the lines of 'We you bloody write it if you think it's so easy'!

I went home and about 2 hours later, my phone rang: "Check your email". Click.

Yep, my Dad had written the lyrics... When I told the other guys about it, we decided to record it and make a video as soon as we could. I managed to get in touch with the Stray Cats management and they shared the post on the official Stray Cats social channels and on Brian's, too. An amazing bit of recognition for us! We also got a very nice email back from them. Anyway, I don't remember posting it here, so I thought I'd pop it on today...

And the lyrics if anybody wants them...

    The Cats Are Back

Driving my car, long time a go.
Listening to the tunes on the radio.
Nothing really special, just the usual jive.
When along came a song that brought my wheels alive.
Well the Bassman started pumpin out a hell 'uva beat.
Got me tappin on the pedals witha both o' my feet.
The Drummer came in, and showin' no restrain.
Got the rhythm rockin', like a runaway train.

    (Chorus)

The Cats Are Back (3 times)

Jim Phantom, Lee Rocker really set the scene.
Got yer rockin' and a rollin', you know what I mean.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get better.
Along came this guy named Brian Setzer
Had to pull over, stop the car.
As this dude started rockin’ on a Gretsch Guitar.
When he started to sing, gotta take my word.
Was the best damn sound I ever have heard.

    (Chorus)

The Cats Are Back (3 times)

    (Middle 8)

It’s rockin, it’s boppin, Ubangi beat,
You can’t do nothin’ but get on ya feet
I’m telling you now, I’m telling no lies
You gotta listen now to these awesome guys

    (Chorus)

The Cats Are Back (4 times)

    (Solo)

    (Middle 8)

It’s rockin, it’s boppin, the Ubangi beat,
You can’t do nothin’ but get on ya feet
I’m telling you now, I’m telling no lies
You gotta listen now to these awesome guys

    (Verse 3)

Yeah the three of them together really Rocked the Town
Hoppin' and a boppin' to that special sound.
We learned to Strut and made lots of noise.
We all went wild to the "Runaway Boys"
The music never died, gets played every day.
Just like the boys they've never been away.
Love to hear that guitar, all the Hollers and the Slaps
Can't wait to see the Stray Cats

    (Chorus)

A great homage to the Cats and your solos certainly have a Setzer feel to them.

Thanks all - It was a fun track to record and Liv did a great job putting the video together. We asked for people to send in footage they'd taken at gigs and used what we could in the video.

For anybody interested, here's a little behind the scenes video we did:
