It sounds good, real hard to play though. Its played by strumming the chords on the lower strings and bowing the melody out on the upper strings.

Got my kalimba. It's nothing special, a mass produced toy, really, but it is satisfying to fool with. Sounds cool drenched in reverb and modulated delays. Kinda makes me want a real mbira.

Only picture I have handy with my kalimba in it is this one, where you can see it hanging on the wall behind the guitars. It is gourd shaped with a rounded back.

I bought it at the Phoenix gift shoppe next to Nepenthe in Big Sur back in the 90s. In those days I was in a "local" band playing "world beat" music, most of what we played was based on contemporary African electric guitar music (really lovely stuff if you've ever delved into it). The wind instrument hanging next to the kalimba, BTW, is a traditional Peruvian flute (think "el condor pasa") which I bought when I was visiting Lima years ago.

When I saw the flute first thing that came to my mind was Zamfir.

@NJDevil 's thread about reverb got me messing around on youtube looking at my next couple of effects dreams, hopefully, purchases. and I stumbled on this vid. Thought it fit here. This person plays one note then changes pitch using some of the pedal's functions to follow it and the step sequencer. I got a kick out of it.

It's cool you tagged this as I was looking a bit at the Meris Enzo last night. This C4 is cool and could have a place in the future on a now growing pedal board. Source Audio delivers the quality!

C4 New Ultra wave and their EQ2 pedal all have some very cool features but like anything the better they get the more costly they get. I found it very cool to have a kalimba with a pickup installed run through a pedal!
