Sweetwater--worth the drive???

I've been tempted to drive to the Sweetwater campus one of these days, it's just 4 hours, 16 minutes from my house according to Google Maps (which with the way I drive, means under 4 hours...;)). Who else has visited their campus, and did you enjoy it? I'd probably drive out the evening before, stay over and then spend most of the day checking everything out before heading back. It's one of the few places where I could try out a bunch of things that I'd like to play all in one place, I've yet to find anywhere nearby that has a Falcon, any Takamine's and numerous other things I've been curious about without having to drive all over the map.

Checking this out before I toss the idea out to my fellow Gretsch Galpal, a Thelma and Louise roadtrip could be in order! Would love to hear from those who have been there. I've had a great experience buying small items from them--and I just paid off my account!! :D

Don't speed in Ohio. Indiana doesn't care anywhere near as much. Sweetwater would be well worth the drive. Fort Wayne's a decent city, and Sweetwater puts GC to shame. By the way, 16 hours seems far too long to drive across Ohio from W. PA, even doing the speed limit.

    Have fun!

I have been there twice, both times as a side trip coming home from a road trip. Bought my Seagull 12 string there in person, was great place to try out stuff that isn't available anywhere near home here in PA. The first time my wife and I stopped in, it was fairly early in the AM and pretty much empty. The salesperson in the electric guitar department said, grab whatever you like and have at it. Told him, if I am too lousy tell me to stop playing and I'll leave. He just laughed and said have fun. Was not pushy, he did bust on me a little because I started out with a 5120 Gretsch and moved up to a 6120 just for kicks. Buying the 12 string was probably one of the best times I have had at a shop. They were more than happy to let me try stuff out, he even went to the stockroom to pull some out of the back for me to try.

Every time I've dealt with them, they have been great. If I had reason to be near Fort Wayne, I'd certainly stop in.

Yeah, I don't think anyone on this forum will try to talk you out of it. Definitely worth a shot. You can get some pretty nice deals on floor models.

I'm 2 hours away. It was worth it...

Don't think I'd do it again unless I wanted to return an amp because it's cheaper than shipping it and I do enjoy chatting with my rep. We had a nice time hanging out when I went. I even let him sell me an amp and a guitar LOL. It wasn't hard.

I travel for work and any new town I go to always gets scouted for a guitar store. Of course you should go and also see what’s between home and there, side trips make the whole thing worthwhile :D
