There are other sunbursts with much darker edges, and I don’t care for that sort of burst. This is merely a matter of aesthetic taste, and nothing more. In some cases, opaque finishes have been used to hide unattractive wood grain, but that doesn’t necessarily equate to a bad guitar.
With regard to Gretsch; sunburst doesn’t come readily to mind for Gretsch guitars from the mid ‘50s onward, with a handful of exceptions, but I’ve seen some stunningly beautiful sunburst Gretsch. A friend owns a sunburst Super Chet, which is a bit of a rarity.
