Suggestion for a boredom stopper for about 2 weeks

I've had Stage 4 colon cancer for 10 years.

Drugs are keeping me alive.

I'm tired all the time.

I'm Type 2 diabetic.

I have blood clots in both arms and legs.

My boss tells me that he's got a problem when I take a day off for medical treatments.

He's got a problem?

My boss is a useless tool.

I'm up at 4:00 AM everyday for my job.

Drive a minimum of 280 miles a day.

My 4 year old mini van has 225 k miles on it.

I pride myself in working and have accumulated a big guitar collection.

Don't get old.

Don't get sick.

Hang in there.
Im sorry to hear that. I am by no means in a situation like you. I realize that even though my thread is slightly in jest, as i have more than enough things to occupy my time while i sit around for a short bit, i know there are others with serious issues that probably wish they were me, And i hope your situation has some improvement. Your boss needs a wake up call.

Hi all. It appears that i have some sort of health issue thats gonna keep me still for a few weeks, so i am looking around for something to entertain me for that period of time. Guitar that is, not a puppy. I can move around, but was told the longer i can sit and not do things the quicker things should heal (nothing scary, i have a pain in my abdominal that a doctor thought was a hernia, but after seeing a surgeon and getting a cat scan, its not that and most likely i rip/tore/aggravated some muscle in there. Probably due to weeks of covid cough follow up by putting a circular saw blaxe oin my weed wacker and clearing a half acre i or so of brush). The more i move and lift and exert, the longer it lasts, so i am calling quits for household tasks for a few weeks, and looking to get a new to me instrument that will get me through it. Bridget is low, up to 475 with shipping.

short list

a thin line light weight hollow body
considered the casino road worn, thats at the upper price, and no case

other light weight hollow bodies that are not to deep

maybe something i never though of. Lately i am into 3 pickup guitars that aren’t strats.

No accordions

i have a banjo, its heavy

i have a few different mandolins

dynasonics intrigue me, but all the 512? Lines are really pricey these days.

Thoughts?
a nice portable piano perhaps?

Just found a few 5135 models on reverb, i know that as soon as i post this someone will snatch them. They are priced in my ballpark , but no case. I played one years ago with a poor setup, but liked the high fret access and mostly how light it Was. Sent a message to each of them, will let you know. If someone here does snag them, dont tell me.

Problem solved. I found this while looking around the basement. Who would have though. Its a little heavier than i what i need at the moment, but its been paid for for 12 years. It will do. Took the money and invested in another acoustic amp for my wife, so if and when we gig again(in about 2 weeks) we have a smaller more portable set up.

Thanks all for playing along and trying to help!

Lou, that's a tough story - sorry to hear about your situation. I hope a happy change comes your way.

Wow, nice work Freddy - the things you find in the basement!! And best of luck healing. :)

Forget them all get a mandolin. Light on the abdomen works in chairs and couches more easily than a guitar needs no cables. Similar enough to guitar that trying to ma ooze some songs you know could occupy a lot of time. There just cool!

Two weeks? If it were me, I’d reread Stephen Hawking’s “A Brief History of Time”. Some of it is dated. But core concepts are still valid and rereading core concepts helps clarify my thinking. Also, understanding where he went wrong gives me a greater appreciation of what he got right. His contributions were seminal.

The small blue one is before and after. I had time on my hands, which is not good. It had a typical cheap burst , so i took an orbital sander to it, and made it blue. The other is a octave mandolin i had someone make for me. My loar mandolin is in its case somewhere along with my mandola. So no shortage of instruments tuned to perfect fifths. Plus the tenor guitars. They are here somewhere. They will get some time as well. Probably the lightest instruments i have next to the kazoo, which I am forbidden from playing in the house.

I will give it a look. Im still working on a book by Bill kruetzman from the Dead, had it for about a year, maybe half way through. Maybe if it was built into a thread here it should get finished.

I didn’t see a piccolo mandolin in that list anywhere! Hahah I knew you had one but didn’t know you had such a fifths selection! Good luck on your recovery! Sitting around this week was hard at first but as I felt better and my body relaized it was getting better I found a way to be much more happy reclined on the end part of my couch! Now two more weeks before any real exercise can happen but hey do what they say sit still take it easy the abdomen is used for everything. Even going to the bathroom hurt at first let’s not talk about a sudden sneeze! Darn near hit the ceiling and was worried I ripped something open! So please be good play fifths and sit still and heal! Look I wasn’t perfect but for me I did great, if I can you can!
