Steve Marriott with Gretsch

I knew Steve Marriott sometimes played a Gretsch but I’ve only ever seen him with what looks like a white refinished jet, which could be this same guitar, but I came across this pic of what appears to be a heavily modded 6121. The horseshoe on the headstock gives that away, but then it’s painted black, looks like a volume knob is replaced by a toggle, pickups look different, Gibson tailpiece, different bridge etc….

I'd say that it's the same guitar, simply because the odds of him finding and refinishing two Chet Atkins 6121 Solidy guitars would be extremely unlikely. Grestch didn't make too many of this model. I'd love to know where that guitar is now!

I think you’re right that he had just one and continued to mod it; I saw another pic with the guitar in the original orange with no pickguard. Didn’t his house catch on fire and that’s how he died? I imagine the guitar went with the fire…

I suggested, a while ago now about an artist signature Gretsch, be a Steve Marriott white 6121. But which iteration? I agree that this is the same guitar with constan refinishing and bits added and taken away.

The black one looks to be missing a knob and the Bigsby arm looks like it may have snapped off, the domed screw is still in place..?
