Someone just raised the bar for a spectacular rock solo dramatically

Makes me want to wait til the end of the song and after the sound completely dies down raise a lighter up and yell “PLAY “More Than Words” MAN!!!” LOL

First time I’ve actually heard/seen this solo after hearing about it a couple of weeks ago (Rick Beato video I believe) and it’s ridiculously impressive. I agree that Nuno Bettencourt is the current champ.

Tavo brought it up the other day. Nuno was my fav guitarplayer for a while(Mourning widows, Population 1 anyone?) 30 years ago!
That solo is the amalgamation of what he’s been doing for the last 3 decades. People like Rick Beato and others just haven’t paid attention so it’s “news”. (I know, I know, they’ve been busy)

Meh. This is my era of music, and... meh. I dig Extreme (at least I did back then), Nuno is certainly very talented. But this solo doesn't impress me. Too many notes, no melody. It's just a show-off thing. Actually, I'd rather hear Nuno go off like this on a solo guitar piece (like EVH's "Eruption" was) than here him blow his entire load in a song.

Frankly, I've never gotten the hype with Nuno. That era had so many amazing players (Yngwie, Vai, Satch, Lynch, Sykes, Beach, I'm sure I'm forgetting some) Nuno does not rise above any more than any of them do. And that's not a criticism- he's a great player. But all of them were. He was just another fish in a large ocean. He was one of the sharks for sure.

I tend to agree ..... hear me out ....
To me , ( again to me ) Extreme tends to lean towards the " one hit wonder " type of band . " More than words "...ugh

Now in their defense .....
As many know I'm a big Queen / Freddie Mercury fan . The way Queen stoled the show at Live Aid in 1985 is the same way Extreme stoled the show at the " Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992 . Extreme was spot on during their 20 minute set . That's when I actually became aware of Nuno . He is a great guitarist IMO .

Now the sad news
Gary Cherone ... the guy makes me want to puke . I put him in the same category as Daryl " I love me who do you love " Hall . Never seen 2 such arrogant conceded , I'm special because I'm a rock star gift to women and nobody better than me , in all my life , type of people .
Check out how cool Gary is at 14:30 - 14:40 when he spits on stage . What a class act . When I grow up , I want to be just like him ......... and Daryl too

That whole era produced some fantastic soloists, but solos don't make a player great unless you're 15 yo old(and let's face it, we all were at some point!).

Very few players possess a good rhythmic feel. I'm not talking holding tempo or playing complicated chords, that is not what I mean. All the greats like Django, Hendrix, and EVH had a swinging, funky, dynamic side to their rhythm playing. Not saying Nuno is as good as Hendrix or EVH, but in my book he's just a cut above the rest because of his rhythm chops.

Where are you getting that about Daryll Hall? I've never heard or read that anywhere. Everybody seems to like the guy (in the industry)

I do agree Nuno was the one guy who had some funk in his rhythm playing, IMO that was his uniqueness. Just like Vai's uniqueness was making quirky sound great, Satch sounded like liquid, Yngwie was a master at creating melody while using 1000 notes (and back in the day, he was as precise as Nuno is in that clip).

This was back in the day, audio limited to recording tech smuggled into the arena back then LOL...

This is played even faster than the record (unfortunately, it loses some of it's grace when played too fast), but HOLY PRECISE.

One of my first impressions ( interviews / videos ) of him in the 80's when they ( Hall & Oats ) first hit the scene .

Interesting. I've gotta' say, I have read and heard nothing but positive vibes about the guy in all the years since then. The Darryl's House show has been awesome over the years. I'm a huge H&O fan, love the R&B vibe they brought to pop.

“…and there are simply too many notes, that’s all. Just cut a few and it’ll be perfect.”
