I know we always get players diving into the rockabilly slapback around here. Although I had this figured out long ago, this Adrian Whyte tutorial is the best I’ve seen. He covers timing, keeping it from getting washed out, and dialing it into more of a double tracker like Sun Records had used.

Slapback in our theater was always a problem. 250' from the downstage edge of the orchestra lift to the back wall/FOH, and another 100' to the back of the stage. The slapback was horrendous, even with diffusers and absorption panels.

Something negative can turn into something positive in the right hands.

is there an english version? :D

Interesting, I never like my SB live. I just want one clean repeat. Maybe this will help. Although he seems to like multi repeats?

At about 12:50 he talks about keeping it tight with only one repeat. But he had it looser earlier when talking about Scotty Moore. That’s what I like about this video is he’s giving examples for when it may be more appropriate. Of course this all due to taste and can be thrown out the window. But I think he’s tastefully spot on.

I’ve had one of these for about a year now and use the last setting quite a bit. Good vid!

I get that feeling from him. Such a great player too. I really like his playing on Death Rides a Harley.

After contacting him after my initial post I definitely agree. Times are likely tough for him like for many working musicians. If anyone here would to support him I’m sure he’d appreciate it. You can do it on his a Patreon page below for as little as $2 a month. $5 gives you access to all his tutorials with transcriptions with plenty of stuff to check out.

I’m currently working on Hola Ghost “Old Barn” that he covered in one of them.
