Okay, so I got the magnets and pole screws swapped in these Roswell Filtertrons and made a video.

    About the magnets:

Of note here is I was incorrect on the video about the magnet pole orientation. They should be magnetic poles facing the same direction on both pickups respective to one another.

Of note about the Pole Screws:

The factory Roswells use 4.5mm pole screws. The replacements from Philidelphia Luthier are 6-40, however they thread into the plastic bobbin with no issue just screwing it in. The soft plastic of the bobbins and the screw sizes being really close make for and easy swap.

As for the difference in sound, it is quite noticeable. The thicker sand cast magnets and the pole screws together definitely liven up the sound. The pickups are more chimey. Not sure the screws have alot to do with this. But overall I think these Roswells with the magnet and pole screw upgrades sound more characteristically Gretsch than the HS filtertron reissues it had prior. I would bet the magnets had more effect to sound than the pole screws. But I’m not swapping screws back and forth more than I already have to see.

    All was played through a Vox AC4TV mic’d with a Shure SM57.

Here are some sound samples of before and after the mods. Please don’t be too critical of my marginal playing.

To my ears, the Stock and Modded sound identical. Not sure if I just can't tell the difference, or if there really isn't much of a different to talk about. :)

It may not be enough to hear through the recording for everyone. But in person you can definitely hear the difference. More sensitivity which makes for easier to control dynamics and more articulate for picked parts. The more I play it the more apparent it is.
