I'm not sure how the price comes as a surprise to anybody. All of the Custom Shop celebrity tribute guitars from Fender, Gibson, and yes, even Gretsch, have always been ridiculously priced. They're obviously aimed at the small market of people to whom $10,000-$20,000 doesn't mean anything. This seems about par for the course.

A little pricey, maybe, but c'mon - the knobs have the same tension as the original!

I bet it is heavy with all the added bronze. :p

Honestly, I see little in the specs that would make me want it, even at the standard Strat Prices of around $1500. :(

I think it's cool they left off the screw holes from the Wonderbar and locking nut.

I don't think the one above is the one that was used on The Last Waltz. There is a GP from '76 that I have that talks all about all his Strats.

Here's the real one. It was in the ROR Hall of Fame once and I saw it there. The bronze one was a '54 according to RR.

Looks like Fender is taking some cues from Gibson.[emoji44]

According to Levon's book, most of The Last Waltz had to be overdubbed. I suspect this "smooth transition" benefitted from post-concert work.

Hi: I'm down in the Monterey Bay, but my work takes me up through the Peninsula with some frequency so I stop in at Gryphon and ogle. I've purchased a 5420 and a 6120 there. I like the store and the staff was very helpful and informed. They have an amazing inventory.

Hard to tell there was much of a pause even visually.

It's not The Band without Levon to sing that song. Robertson doesn't do it justice.

$17,000.00? You know, I get a bit resentful when things are priced so high that they are unattainable. :(

Nope. My (then) new 2005 G6122-1962 was $1,700. The same guitar today is about $3,000.

17K? For a Strat? Seven....teeen....frickin...K! You could buy 28 or so brand new MIM Standard Strats for that, A/B them with the Robbie Robertson and they'd all feel and sound like Strats. I gauuurantee. Well, as PT Barnum once said, there's one born every minute.

I'm a huge fan, but I wouldn't pay 17K for Robbie's ACTUAL Strat, even if he personally delivered it and gave me a half-hour lesson.

And what's with the second bass player? Ricky can handle it, he doesn't need a ghost backup.
