His conversational style of lyric writing was unique. Everyone wished they could turn a phrase like he could. Hard to pick a favorite, but A Week in the County Jail was maybe my favorite. My conscious and my sinus' were clear.

It’s a shame that so many great artists are leaving us, but he had a long and fruitful life. His lyrics were excellent.

    R.I.P. Mr. Hall.
I loved his story telling, like the line from Back when the Old Homeplace Was New. "The old gravel road that leads to the old homeplace gets dust on their new shiny cars".

We lived on a dirt road, and some relatives would refuse to visit because their cars would get dirty. We used to laugh, because the acid rain and fallout from the local factory and airport where they lived didn't bother them.
We did not have a service that would chloride the roads, so it was just dirt.

Back in the late 70's he was on tour here in Australia.
I was in the backing band for the support act, Lorraine Delaney, and her daughter Cassandra, who would become John Denver's 2nd wife.
Both acts had to do 2 shows punctuated by a break and a change of audience.

Before the first show it was clear he'd had a lot to drink, but he went out and was superb, even played some great banjo instrumentals.
Before the 2nd show, he was so drunk his band members were trying to keep the waiter away from him, but he went out and did a better show than the first!

It's still one of my greatest music memories to have shared the same dressing room, and had a chat to Tom T.

Mr. Clint, I loved it. It was one of my neighbors favorite songs, as long as we would play it, he always took the opportunity to go up to the mic during block parties.
You certainly have the better pipes, thanks for sharing.

Your kind words are greatly appreciated.

I had a chance to see Tom T Hall many years ago, he started out his set dressed in a hobo costume and started in with "Mr. Bojangles", and danced around a bit. Wish I could remember the complete set list. I was expecting to see a "Storyteller" sign on his bus, as I had seen on one of his albums, instead it just said, "Nashville."
