Dan Duffy's sons reported on the GDP that Dan passed away suddenly of a heart attack.

Dan was the Quality Control manager during the Gretsch glory days of the 50s and 60s. He tested most guitars that came off the line and signed many of the OK Cards included with purchases.

He self-published an entertaining unique book about those years called

Inside The Gretsch Guitar Factory 1957/1970

I reached out to him about a questionable Monkees guitar I had purchased and found him very helpful.

RIP Dan

WAY back when on the GDP, I reached out to him at the suggestion of others about my old Gretsch double cut. He was the first one to help me identify it as having been likely made in the mid-60's due to the placard being placed over the horseshoe inlay. That was probably 10 years ago now. That thread is long gone I think as it was on the old GDP.

Condolences to his family.

Based on your fine tributes I bought his book, $17 on Amazon. while not a properly organized or edited item, it was enoyable and informative read. I sure would have liked to meet Dan. And we were practically neighbors.
Thank you all for helping Dan and his legacy to be part of this website.

Yeah, it was obviously vanity published and the all caps was annoying but it was a fun read. Thanks for reviving an old thread!
