That's cool. He's not just a player but an informed player. I find it really neat the Gretsch themselves were there doing the windings- in other words these pickups won't be third-party. Should be an interesting sig guitar!

I'm curious what pickups they wind up with as they description sounds like the fulltrons or broadtrons.

We came up with a construction that is a hybrid of a vintage-style PAF and a Filter’Tron. It’s a very unique-sounding pickup, but it gives me all of the detail from a Filter’Tron I want. When you roll the volume down to around 7, you’re very much in classic Filter’Tron territory, and as you bring the volume up you get more of that round PAF thing.

Ran across them for pre-order on Sweetwater, someone stop me from buying another guitar on credit. They're amazing but I'm only "in accounting", not a CPA.

Great article, I was impressed at the lengths Richard was going to to find everything he needed out of a filtertron. I imagine a lot of it could have been handled with pedals and splitting signals thru various amps, especially at his level. I look forward to hearing what he came up with, curious what it will do with my fingers.
