So I made a tail piece for my Rancher.
Mostly wanted to see how it would look.
Had to come up with something to maintain the string break behind the bridge. It’s not the prettiest thing but I did accidentally discover something.
Because the strings are stretched the full length of the body it is a little more resonant.

Also did a major mod on the neck.
I like the feel of my Setzer smoke so much I trimmed down the neck to match the profile. I didn’t take anything off the middle. Didn’t want to chance exposing the truss rod.
Anyway it’s a lot easier to move up and down the neck now.

Nice work. Love the tailpiece! Did you stain the neck or just remove the clear coat from the shoulders?

  8. This is pretty cool, and brings up a situation i am in. Always wanted a acoustic with a bigsby. When the G5034tft firsts came out, i got one. Played great, more like a electric than acoustic, but played great. Acoustically it was dead, just a little louder than a standard archtop electric. This was due to the very thick top it has. It was my understanding that the top needed to be that thick to support the bigsby. It wound up getting sold due to circumstance. I just got another one. With the hopes of installing a lr bags lyric pickup in side to get a more acoustic sound plugged in. Go figure.

But this post shows you can have a raised bridge withg the strings going over the top to a tail piece. A bigsby is like a tail pice, and i cant figure out why they couldn’t just put one on the 5034 without making the top just shy of a quarter inch thick. I understand that a acoustic with a neck pickup like this one can feed back at high volume, but i can control that. So they put the pickup in a little black wooden box, increasing the weight and lowering the volume. So what gives?

Anyway, congrats on the mods. I have played a few ranchers and each one was a breeze to play. I was considering one like yours, but insanity got the better of me and i bought another led sled box with a bigsby.

I did have to install a bar right behind the saddle to create the string break.
It will not work without it. The string rattle.

This is a picture I found on Pinterest
The Bigsby has the extra bar and it’s screwed down to the top of the guitar.
I bet they used small bolts backed with washers because screws would probably pull out.

  12. The 5034 has the bigsby screwed down on top as well, or so it looks. I have not tried to i take it off.

It actually evened out the highs and lows.
