Chet pulled his endorsement from Gretsch. In a way, it was permanent as he died in 2001 and understand the name did not show up on a Gretsch again until 2007.

I would say those non-Atkins guitars are probably valued less than the Atkins.

There are two examples that I can think of.

Johnny Smith disavowed his signature Guild model because he felt they didn't't make it the right way. Years later he apologized. The model continued as the Guild Artist.

More egregious is Barney Kessel and Kay. He likely never intended to regularly use the signature model he agreed to endorse, then did little to support . Hopefully he wasn't paid a lot. The smallest of the three models is one of my white whale models. Eastwood makes an excellent version of it, called the Tuxedo. There's a modern Kay reissue as well.

I have an old issue of Premier Guitar magazine with a photo of Annie Clark (St. Vincent) playing a Thurston Moore JM.
I think she has a ton of different guitars.

Here is perhaps my favorite recorded musical concert. Lucinda Williams, Austin City Limits 1998. Kenny Vaughan (guitar right) plays an MusicMan Albert Lee and Gibson Chet Atkins. John Jackson (guitar left) plays a Gretsch but as it is 1998, may not be an official Chet Atkins.

    The guitar work is amazing.

Ronnie Dunn of Brooks and Dunn plays a Merle Haggard signature Tele. Gotta say, it's one of my dream guitars. According this article, it's signed by Haggard.

George Harrison played a Clapton Strat. So did John Mayer.
The Buddy Guy signature is a Clapton with polka dots, essentially...

Glen Campbell's G&L Comanche was played by:

They only made one like that special for him.

I just watched "I'll be me" and had to look up info about that G&L he was playing in some of the concert footage and that is what I found out. A very touching documentary to anyone who has lost a loved one to Alzheimer's.

I’m sure they are modified too. There is a video floating round YouTube with his guitar tech somewhere

The modification is just the Fishman pickup and extra knob for it on the body.
