Power Jet Pick Up Swap - Advice Required

Hi all

I have a G6128T-TVP Power Jet and am thinking of swapping out the stock Power ‘Trons for a set of T V Jones T’Armonds.

Firstly, I‘d be interested in hearing from anyone who has carried out a similar swap.

Secondly, I’ve received conflicting advice about the mount required for this particular change: T V Jones themselves recommended their original Gretsch mount while a Gretsch specialist here in the UK suggested the English mount. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I have no experience in this regard. But I wish you every success with your project.

Here's something about english mount if that's what your question was about:

I would email TJJones and tell them what you have and get what they say you need. Unless that’s what you did of course but if you are reading what they suggest online it might be referring to a different Jet. I have no idea if they are all the same.

I think the benefit of the english mount over the orriginal gretsch mount is the fact that they can be adapted to fit other guitars as they don't have the big base plate, the original gretsch mount is made to suit gretsch guitars specifically if that makes sense, but seeing as they are going in your jet then it wouldn't matter which way you go.

As for the two pick ups your talking about, i have powertrons and gretsch dynas, two very different pick ups, powertrons have more prominent mids and have a warmer tone in general l, dynas are kinda like stronger tele pick ups, not really middy, brighter and twangy witha thumping bass tone, i haven't tried T-armonds though so can't comment on those forst hand but the sound clips i hear have a bit more mids and sweeter highs if you get what i mean.

I love both pickups for what they are, so i couldn't tell you whoch one or other to choose lol

I’m pretty sure you’ll be ok with universal mount, ie those come with optional screw on ears though I don’t think you’ll be using them. But yes email TV Jones and they‘ll set you straight. As much as I love Dynas I’d probably opt for the Filter Tron Classics in that guitar. The “Dynas in a Filtertron package“ just don’t look right to me, and theoretically should also sound slightly different from real ones given the dimensional differences of the wind, though this later point is probably splitting hairs.

Hi all

Thanks for the responses: I've double-checked with T V Jones and the original mount is the way to go - the PU's are now on order.

I'll report back when they are installed.

Cheers

Either would have been ok. English mount is slightly easier to set height of the pickups but requires drilling the rings(or getting new ones) and given the fragility it’s not for the faint of heart or easily annoyed. 😅
