Like pick it. Get it? Pick...Guard

    OK whatever.

Got the mandatory G5420T in Fairlane Blue, which evidently is required for full membership here at the forum and it's looking just a little plain to me. I likes to dress 'em up, so I pulled out the ole Gretsch Simulator today and with loads of help from the Quickguards.com site I put together a bunch of choices. Decided to get the help of the forum with this one and included a poll for your convenience. Feel free to choose as many as you like in the polls for thread 1 and 2, then take a moment to elaborate on your choices in the thread. Thanks in advance for your participation.

The poll feature here has a limit of 10 choices, so go to "Pick my Guard - Fairlane Blue - Part 2" for more choices. There are some real winners in there that you don't want to miss. (link below)

As a new owner of the same guitar....I actually like it as is...lol....I'm assuming the ones you did as pics are your favorites? Of those, I like the Black with chrome....The checkerboard is kind of cool for a more "rebellious" look... I'm not digging the tortoise shell with that color guitar, the two cream options I'm torn on.....I think they work.....but I'm not really sure if I like them or not....I keep going back and forth.

What does the "Gold" sparkle look like? That MIGHT be kind of cool...

EDIT...just saw the pic of Trash Kidd's......yup....I like the black with chrome.

    here
what OzzPocket said.. the patterns and swirls (pearl, tortoise, etc) are too busy for the already flashy color_ think they mesh better with neutral or mellow colors.. the silver combo it comes with is a great match and that black guard that trash has just pops.. it's a sexy beast.. I'd go with that.

was going to ask where you were getting these guards because I'm in the market also so thanks Trash!

    Black with chrome is classy.
Checkerboard is fun, rather comics than rebellious to me. To be played with a Marvel costume.

    No guards for me.

While I feel that Gretsch has the nicest looking guards out there, I remove mine.

They get in my fingers/hands way for my picking/playing style. 20200322_150641.jpg 20200713_171902.jpg

Here’s a pic of a 5420 that somebody took about eight or nine steps further than you did.

    Blingity bling bling

For me it would be the Black with Chrome Border one from your available choices. The Fairlane Blue is such a great color I would be inclined to go clear so more of the guitar is visible. Like G5422T says, if you don't need it why not leave it off altogether? That's certainly the most cost-effective option!

There’s so much about Gretsch that is “don’t need it’ for me. The Gretsch thing is at its best when it’s being unnecessary. The pickguard on these guitars is like the perfect hat on a fancy outfit.

Cream would look good but imo it would need matching pickup surrounds.

Do they have a white guard that matches the binding?

otherwise go for the black with chrome trim, but the Gretsch script logo.

    I agree with G5422T
If it has a pickguard it comes of. No guards for me.
