I was cleaning out my drawers today and came across a long-lost item. Back in 1980 I was the sound system engineer for the KISS tour of Australia. At the end of each show the stage was littered with picks with the player’s name on them. I collected a few of each one to show them to my kids (at that stage 9 & 5 yrs old) The eldest one was quite enterprising, she took them to school and used them for barter and brownie points with her friends. I noticed that they had all disappeared, but she only admitted it years later. Here’s what I found today: a Gene Simmons used pick in a bag of old picks.

I've saved a few picks that I found onstage after gigs. Two special ones are an SRV and a Jerry Garcia.

I rarely bought picks, tho I did get a dozen Fender Heavy 357s in green moto---easy to find on the floor for some reason. I usually found enough after gigs to last me a lifetime. Didn't find thumb picks, tho.
I've got an ancient tortoise shell that I've had for fifty years that's a great pick, but I don't use it anymore, just because.

I used to have one from Hank Marvin of the Shadows. Lost it.

  6. Always good to put your name on them. Some folks steal picks.

The pick means nothing, except to me. It was my favorite pick back then. The guitar and pick are both over 40 yrs old and both hang in my house.

I have ,or had,one of Rick Parfitt's,but seem to have mislead it,it was just a plain yellow heavy pick,no name on it ,from the 90's.

Nice find! Cool to bring back those memories... That was the first tour with the late great Eric Carr I believe.

I've got a red pick that I got at a styx concert in the 80s. I've used it many many times and all the print is now worn off, although you can still see the styx logo if you look at it at the right angle. How many of you are rocking the same pick for 40 years lol?

I don't have any famous picks, Devon Allman did toss one to me after a show (he could tell I was really into the show, small venue).

I do have my own favorites I use though. Fender 351 Thin in Abalone Moto for most, Black and White Checker for my Gretsches, and recently bought them in Tortoise for some acoustics and most recently White, as that and Tortoise are what I used back when I was a teenager.

So done with looking for picks, bought a gross of each of the above, divided them up into tiny plastic zip type bags of 10 or 12 and placed one in each guitar case. Always have 2 or 3 in my "pick pocket" (watch pocket) of my Jean's.

I just bought a 1975 Ovation this Summer (trying to relive my youth? Always missed that guitar). Mine is sunburst though. Still got the hair. Well, some of it anyway. :D
