Ultimate bluesman mandolin score. Early '50s Kay with the Jimmy Reed pickup, this is the Johnny Young special and quite rare so needless to say I'm super stoked. All original and working, made going out in public with all these miserable BA's kinda worth it. 20200927_152911.jpg i have a good collection of blues mando's, Stella's, Reso's and whatnot, I'll be tryin to put up a demo soon...this thing needs to be displayed.

This thing was designed as an electric instrument, the top is way thick.

Congrats, very nice. So what makes a mando a blues-mando?

    Congrats on the score.

Your mention of collection just reminded me of the David Grisman Tone Poems CDs 1 and 2 that I bought years ago. He played his collection with a different vintage mandolin on each song. Tony Rice played guitar. If I remember right the CD sleeve had a picture of each mandolin for each song. It’s a really cool concept and fun to listen to.

Ha! I was just getting ready to do a NMD post of my own when yours hit.

Mine's not as funky-retro-cool as yours, but perfectly serviceable to learn on and I picked it up used at a fair price. The Loar LM-520. Got my "mando cowboy chords" down and a few songs under my belt already. After 40+ years of guitar, it's weird being a rank beginner again. Somebody moved all the notes around! LoL!

(Sorry for the lousy cell phone pic - it's what I got handy at the moment)

Nice, I learned a bit of mandolin back in the day. It's a really fun instrument.

With no one to play with I joined Strum Machine. About a thousand bluegrass backing tracks for all the common songs that you even can customize. One of my favorite features is adding the mandolin in or keeping it there.

What a great sound the mandolin adds to play Bluegrass guitar along with.

    BTW.....Love your new mandolin
