Cruising the 'net as one does and spotted this beauty, the G5123B. Apparently this was a special run in 2012 for Guitar Centre in the USA. Short scale and came stock with TV Jones Thundertrons. I'd never seen this model before, quite the looker and from Korea in 2012 you know it's going to be a quality instrument.

I like the idea of a short scale bass for home recording in my small flat. Have been thinking of getting a Junior Jet, but will have to look into other models and see what's around. By the way this G5123B above is on Reverb now if anyone likes it that much. (I have no affiliation with the sale or the seller). I'd be interested if it was a bit/lot closer to home (and a bit cheaper πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«). Anyway just posting this because I like the look of it. πŸ˜„

One thing to remember about Gretsch "short scale" archtop basses-- they may technically have a "short scale" (30.5 inches) , but they sound and feel more like a long scale. This is due to the floating bridge/tailpiece combination. They also require long-scale strings for the same reason.

I have a G6073 model with the same scale but with a sealed Electrotone body, and it's my favorite bass in the stable.

I had a 5123B and I liked it very much. It is actually a mid-scale (32") bass. It may have been a prototype for the Electromatic line because it was not made for long before Gretsch canceled it and introduced long-scale and short-scale Electromatic basses. Not being a real bassist, I traded my 5123 away for a vintage Ampeg guitar amp, but I'm glad to recommend the model.

The 5123b is actually a 32” scale. I had one, regret selling it. You will need 34” scale strings because of the bridge set up. Very nice bass. Nice, warm yet still articulate tone.
My Gretsch Broadkaster is a 30.5” scale. Looks pretty much the same but the f holes are bound as well.
