    New Gold Foil Day!
I received my GFS single coil golds!
Well, I installed them Saturday, but I’ve been too busy to play them and post about them. 54F5D182-DBB6-403B-84B1-996B42403468.jpeg

I went with 5k output for both since that’s what the website suggested for the most vintage sound.
At first I was regretting it, and thought that maybe I should have gone with something stronger for the bridge pickup.
I did some research online and read that the bridge pickup should be as high as 1/8th from the E strings.
I raised it up a bit, and VIOLA! Now they balance well, and the bridge sounds much louder and stronger.
The “Hot Rail Humbuckers” that I swapped out were undeniably heavier, but these gold foils have a much more articulate and old school sound.
This is not my loudest guitar by any means.
I played some switcharoo with other guitars keeping my amp and pedal levels the same, and there isn’t too much of a volume drop.
Like my tele with TVJ starwoods, this guitar sounds awesome through the custom channel of my Custom Deluxe Reverb.

Never tried the GFS gold foils, but I've heard lots of good feedback on them (pun not intended).

    I guess so! Haha
I’ve just grown accustomed to lower output pickups since being converted to Filtertrons.
I have no delusions that these GFS Gold Foils are 100% vintage correct gold foils, but they sound really cool.
Also, with a vintage looking guitar like this, it’s seems more appropriate to have 50-60’s style pickups instead of balls to the wall Humbuckers in it. That’s never been a tone I’ve chased.
The stock humbuckers weren’t terrible pickups by any means, just not my style at all.

Now we’re talking! It looks very, very pretty with those gold foils. This guitar is dripping mojo... again, great score.

I heard so much about this kind of pickups and really never came across of them.
So what do they sound like? Any comparisons to more "usual" pickups?

They have a metallic sound. Not heavy metal, but they sound like metal. That’s the best description I can come up with.
    It’s a cold sound.
Very punchy. I actually have the tone knob for the bridge pickup at 1/2 which I never do.

Yeah man, I wanna record something this week. I was actually going to record something today, but I’ve just been concentrating on playing.

Lookin' good! Hope you're loving the tones your getting. I have been very impressed with some GFS pickups before, you definitely seem to get your money's worth.

I've really enjoyed the current production Supro gold foils in my Newport. There is a fairly unique texture to them, every bit of the single coil bit I'm looking for but a bit more balanced/smooth than my DeArmond type pickups w/ really nice character to the breakup.

That's one sharp looking guitar brother. (although I have no idea what it is). Bet it sounds great too. I love the gold foils in my Supro Hampton and the GFS one in the bridge if my Tele.
