There’s been a few lately actually......but I’ve been busy and vacationing and etc etc. Anyways. Today I got in a new Epiphone SG Custom because so many of my player friends have been raving about the current Epi offerings.

Man. This newest lineup of Epiphones is really incredible. The Custom I have here is WONDERFUL. Fit n finish is outstanding. Fretwork is perfect. Real ebony fretboard. Split parallelogram headstock inlay. Pearloid block inlays on neck. CTS pots. Alnico Classic Pro pickups.

What will I be modding? Nothing. It’s perfect as it sits and I’m baffled at the amount of guitar here for $600. Can’t put it down, and will def be playing it tomorrow morning! :)

Oh thats nice. I'm pleasantly shocked at an ebony board on a $600 guitar, that's awesome. Are Epiphone and Gibson really under common control?!

Chinese made? I’m stunned by the quality of the Chinese guitars now. Not to mention the ridiculous prices.

    Nice score

Congrats Captn Sims - looks like a black version of mine :D

You said no mod's but....... I can highly recommend popping in a set of SD Pearly Gates pups.
It turned my great sounding Epi SG into the equal of any gibson

It’s felt too long since a NGD from you. That looks sharp with that ebony board. I’m real glad you won’t be nodding this one. ;)

Nice to see you out and about at your landing too!

Did yours come with these newer Alnico Classic Pro’s? Cause these things are rippin to my ears! And I’ve owned probably 5 SGs......I’m amazed at how great this guitar is.

T , the only mod I would do is speed knobs . I had my luthier put them on mine along with a better toggle . Not sure if you remember my thread when I got my SG , but SG's just speak to me

Congrats and beautiful guitar. Are you a member yet of the SG site Everything SG? if not, you should consider joining, I am a blogger on that site as well (as well as Strat Talk)-its a great site for SG players like ourselves. BTW, Epiphone makes a great SG!

yes it did and those pups are good I agree :D

But the SD Pearly Gates take it to another level.
Like going from Blacktops to TV Jones Classics.

These 2020 Epi SGs have everything else covered with CTS pots etc.
Biggest improvement with the Pearly Gates were the clean tones, particularly the neck pup.
Overdriven tones with the Pearly Gates are a bit smoother and tighter in bottom end :)

I think my Epi SG with the Pearly Gates sounds better than the Gibson SG Deluxe I used to own.

Nice! I recently bought a new “Inspired by Gibson” Epi 50s LP Goldtop and it’s equally impressive.

Bought it because I wanted to have a Les Paul (grew up wanting one over any other guitar) but since playing lead in bands my main guitars have become double-cuts so I can’t justify an expensive LP anymore.

Frankly, it feels as good as my old CS Gibson ... great finish, great colour, plays amazing ... even the stock pickups sound great! Don’t feel like I’m missing out in the slightest.

hey Martine - try out some SGs.
They are not just heavy rock axes.
They are just as versatile as an LP and are fantastic for clean tones, blues, pop, funk and most music styles.

They're very light and comfy to play also :)

I would dare say much MORE versatile than an LP! You get thick throaty stuff, but also cut and chime. Like a slightly darker Telecaster if you want it! The treble bleed on these is great too for middle position, volume on 5 funk stuff. Gets you right there.

Great SG, Tony. For some time now I have been much more impressed with Epiphone QC than the new Gibsons I see in guitar shops.
