I picked up this pair of Epiphone Dots over the weekend through local trades. I've always loved the looks and sound of 335-style guitars, and they scratch an itch for certain blues and jazz tones that my Gretsches don't quite hit in the same way.

The vintage sunburst is a 2010 Dot Deluxe with a flamed top and gold hardware that's started to age nicely.

The cherry is a regular 2016 Dot with chrome hardware. I immediately swapped out the stock amber top hat knobs on the cherry Dot for some black speed knobs I had laying around. I think the black knobs look nicer on that guitar (but I like the original knobs on the sunburst just fine).

I think they'll get along quite nicely with their Grestch siblings (a white G5420TG and a red G5230T) despite having a different name on the headstock.

Twins are often times a pleasure to look at. Case in point with yours. I know it can be hard to pick a favorite. Do you lean toward one over the other when playing for feel or sound wise?

As the father of actual twins, I know better than to pick a favorite! :)

The cherry Dot had the action set too low (yes, that can be a thing) when I got it, but once I adjusted it to my liking, it felt just as nice as the Deluxe. They feel and sound very similar to me right now (even though I think the Deluxe is supposed to have better--or at least different--pickups)... but as I get more familiar with them, I may start to hear more of a difference. Nothing that jumps out at me right away, though.

Now I just need to string 'em both up with .011's instead of the slinky little strings that are currently on there.

Happy new double Dots JT19 - enjoy loudly.
Every time I go to a music store and see a Dot / ES-335 I always try it out.
It is in the running for my next guitar for sure.

Congrats very nice. I always liked the Dots and have been tempted more than once, but between my Sheraton and Lucille I’m not complaining much.
