My wife gave me Ed's book on my birthday in 2019. By the end of the day I also somehow ended up with this:

It sounds like he has that effect on people. I think he may bleed Gretsch orange if he gets a cut.

That books looks lovely, the guitar even better. I found the Chet Atkins guitar picture book in my local library, that had some great stories behind his collection and really great pictures. Ed's book looks awesome too.
While not as comprehensive historically, if you email, and ask nicely, Gretsch Customer service might mail you a printed copy of their current catalog, if they have any still.

I like to collect the printed guitar catalogs from the year in which I bought a particular guitar, I have old catalogs from Takamine, Breedlove, and Gretsch in the corresponding years that go with my small (but growing) guitar collection.
On pins and needles with excitement I'm betting.
Cool that you considered others. My wife and I are in a similar situation. No bills, modest retirement. We also donated this year, more than in others.I’ll confess to something. I’ve never purchased a guitar that expensive and I found my self thinking about how I’m buying an expensive guitar right now when so many people are struggling. We are not wealthy, but our modest retirement incomes coupled with really almost no bills means we don’t really have to worry much about money right now.
So.......Radwife and I talked to our oldest daughter we live with and together we gave a good donation to a local organization that helps people in need, as we did a few months ago.
It made me feel better about the purchase....
And yes, I’m checking FedEx way to often![]()
