I bought this guitar almost 3 weeks ago. First I saw one on here. Then I needed one. So I put the word out that I was looking. Several shout outs, but no help. Because this is a very rare guitar. It didn't take long to find one. Maybe a month or so. It was like a mirage when I saw one for sale.

So then the weather got cold. I didn't want it shipped when it was -20F outside. So I timed it out so that it would not be below freezing while in transit. Today it arrived. It is a 2001 6120n New Nashville. That makes it a pre FMIC.

Congrats, the 6120N is a great guitar. I wanted one since I saw it in Ed Ball's Gretsch guitar book. It took me more than a year to find mine, but it's a keeper for sure.

Nice! You don't see too many with the Florentine cutaway, so it's even more striking when you do.

    Congrats!

    Beautiful guitar

I’m one of those guys old enough to remember when that sticker was a bad thing... Of course now it means quality

Thanks to all. I had a chance to tune it up and play it. It does not sound like it looks. It it has a very jazzy sound, like it wants to play sweet and pretty, not rough and rowdy. Instead of the Gretsch twang and chuga I'm use to with TVJs, it chimes and rings. I am guessing the thinner body sustains differently. Instead of rumble and growl in the sustain, it is more like a bell chiming.

It intonation is spot on, and has no tuning problems, even with new strings. Action is super low and the neck is fast. It would seem it was not played. It still needs to be broken in. Has the sweetest clean channel sound in my current herd. It could easily become the main guitar. Pretty darn happy with it.

It most likely has the original ceramic magnet pickups, these have a different tone from the later HS Filtertrons in post-FMIC guitars. I changed mine to TVJ Classic/Classic+ combo.

It looks cool! Never been completely sold on Florentine on Gretsch (I’ve always been more used to see it on the other G brands) but boy this one may have changed my mind. It’s a stunner.
As for the sound, I can tell the ceramic Filtertrons are way more darker and compressed than TVJ. I never thought of them as jazzy, they may be good for it!
    Congrats and have fun!

Seriously, your first picture above should be printed on high-quality paper and framed. 48" x 36".
The light-to-dark and focus (and of course that beautiful Gretsch) are awesome. Maybe re-take it without the shine on the headstock, but that's nit-picky.
