This one showed up on GC the day after I swore here that I will buy nothing until I have saved for Falcon. Oh well, the universe punished me right away... so I welcome electromatic CVTIII to the family.

Serial number puts the manufacturing date to September 2012. And there is not a scratch on the guitar, not even dust under the strings on the headstock. Zero wear on the frets. Where has it been for almost a decade? Has it ever been played? Doubtful.

It's light 6 pounds 8 ounces. The pups are HOT. Bridge and middle 17.5, neck 15.6. There is only a 3 way switch so you can't blend the pups but as they are basically the same not sure how much that would make a difference. The body shape is such that if you play sitting down you have to move your hand more to the right to strum over the middle or bridge pups.

What was nice surprise and not visible on the GC (or my) pics, is that the wood grain is nicely showing through the color. Its quite pretty.

Very cool...I’ve never played one but always suspected they were wicked little creatures.

Thanks for sharing, this is another example of an under rated Gretsch. These are built like a tank, and they sound incredible. With the bold on neck design, these are easy to adjust to get the play-ability perfect. These are not easy to find, especially in this condition. You scored a great find!

Congrats on your "new" CVT, juks!

I like the idea of the 3 pickups. Any thoughts on rewiring to get different combos?

Not immediately at least. I don't have much experience with wiring but that would be an option.

There are alternative toggle switches that have like 6 positions, or a rotary switch that might fit in the same hole with 5 positions. Very nice find, enjoy!

Yeah, the body is quite thin, as you can see from the jack plate (included!). 20210607_163014.jpg

    Nice snag juks,

I'd buy one in a minute.

I have a pristine, early 60's era Burns Tremolo that would be right at home on that guitar.

My early ''Electromatic'' Pro-Jet, came with those mini humbuckers, and with a slight touch with a Dremel drum sander around the perimeter of the PU routes, Dyna's will drop right in!

    Best, have fun!

Three pickups can give seven different combinations. A second toggle just for the center position (on/off/phase reverse) along with the standard selector switch would be a great combination.

I don't think I've ever seen a CVT with a bolt neck. Are those minihums? What's the model number? Looks really nice---love the color.

GC add only said CVTIII so no idea of the model number. It's 2012 based on serial, so could be some kind of short lived variant. Made in China.

I'm still a bit confused with all the gretsch pick ups, but considering how hot these are and the pods are 500k, I'd say they are minihums. I looked in the control cavity to see if there would be a model number, nope.

The color is great. It flames a bit when you turn it in light, that does not show in pictures.

    Found this review:

    https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/guitars/gretsch-electromatic-g5105-cvt-iii-527552

So G5105 and indeed bolt on neck. Must have been Fender influence. Correction G5103CH in this color.
