    Update...

    The replacement silver pickup rings finally arrived and were installed. Big improvement in my opinion... definitely more "Gretsch-y."

    The new pickup rings made a slight difference in lowering the level of the pickguard... but not as much as I'd like. So I took a drill bit and turned it by hand on the right spot on the bottom of the pickguard to create a small cavity right where the head of the pickup adjustment screw was hitting it.

    It's still higher than ideal, but at least it doesn't get in my way quite as much now. I can live with the height in order to keep the cool silver sparkle pickguard on. :)

    Oh, yeah... I also replaced the slinky little strings that were on it with .011's, and now it sounds even better, too!

    Awesome - silver pickup rings were the right call, IMO: looks like a “proper” Gretsch now. Who am I kidding? It IS a proper Gretsch! :)
