For those of you that saw my last thread about finding a 6119, this is the redemption NGD thread!

I found a clean ‘67 Tennessean locally and just picked it up today. Serial number 774xx stamped on headstock.

No binding issues (except on neck heel which should be a quick replacement by the luthier), no neck issues, etc. Bridge has plenty of room to lower, and the action is already as low or lower than I usually play. Neck joint is nice and tight, no separating, cracking or any funky business going on. The neck is straight as an arrow, no ski slope at all.

Plays beautifully and sounds even better! And I love the bigsby! Wish my Duo Jet had one.

I really appreciate all those who helped me in my last thread, all that information and tips really helped when checking out this guitar as well. Since everything checked out I took it home this time!

Very nice - congrats. Looks mint except for that heel cap. Wish mine had that much red left in the color.

Thank you. The luthier near me who has done great Gretsch restorations (full rebinds and the like) for one of my buddies quoted me at $30 for the heel cap replacement. Not bad except the wait time is about 3 weeks.

Nice guitar! Is the serial number stamped into the tip of the headstock or printed on the back of the headstock?

Ed will give you the exact year but it’s gotta be ‘66 or earlier.

Ed, did you ask about where the serial was because if the bigger bar bridge? Noticed that right away.

Aren’t the serials date coded though? If so I believe that puts this as a ‘67?

No... that's why I asked. If it's stamped into the tip of the headstock, it's still a sequential system number. I've documented several guitars in close proximity to this one with Oct. and Nov. '65 pots. I would guess that this guitar was made in very late '65 or early '66... but would consider it a 1966 model year example.

Okay, so it wasn’t until the serial moved to the back of the headstock that they became date coded?

Makes sense with having the large bar bridge still, 65Club discussed this in the previous thread.
