I just noticed a new wrinkle on ebay. I sold a widget for $549 and they added $32.41 sales tax for the buyer to pay, which they handle sending to my state.

The wrinkle is this. Ebay tallies the whole $581.41 towards my total amount sold for reporting purposes. Also, they charge their fee based on the total amount. As if that weren't enough they charged me $0.30 for "final value fee". I would rather have someone steal twenty bucks from me than F#$%!k me out of thirty cents. haha

I'm no tax, or how to get out of paying taxes specialist, wish I was, but I would also imagine over all income plays into any taxes owed also. If its not sold for a loss. I myself over the years have rarely made a huge profit on anything. I see the various web portals as convent ways of getting rid of gear I really don't want. Trading things in just doesn't work.

I'm in UK and have had no similar communication from Reverb. We all pay tax and National Insurance at source. Only the self-employed and Companies file tax returns.

It will only be a matter of time before the greedy, useless British government get a handle on this to rob us of a few more shekels.

I really don't like the idea of a second-hand marketplace acting as a tout for the state.

We don't like the idea either! It was the almighty State's idea.

I already don't like selling online to strangers. I guess I will have to stick to soft selling on this forum and insisting on PayPal friend (even though I think that is kinda lame).
