I have my 79 tele which I won’t do any permanent modifications to, so I found a neck I loved and decided to try a pine body, and an experimental finish that I’d debated for a long while... so here is the Crayolacaster... first I burnt the sap out of this body... literally! After charring it pretty heavily, wire brushed the daylights out it leaving the raised grains... then liming wax to whiten all the pores, wire brushed, liming wax and melted pink crayons, wire brush, liming wax and robin egg blue crayon... wire brush to even all colors, the sand the ridges a bit to add depth, then clear furniture wax... how will it sound? We shall see when my bridge comes in!!! Will it melt if I play outside... it shouldn’t but I’ll wear an old shirt first time out!

I was going to do a stained barn wood type finish that I was pleased with the test results of yesterday, but all those colors in my kids crayons won out! I’ll probably do the stain on a headboard for a bed...this was burnt then a really dark blue stain, wire brushed then white over that, brushed and sanded. Some test red stain on the edge.. Love the grain, but what do the colour crayons bring to the table?

Love that rustic look. Reminds me of an original Fender Stratocaster which was sandblasted by the factory that I recently saw on eBay. Very cool finish.

The blues and pinks fill in some of the pores in the wood, all of the colors in this one other than black and some browns came from crayons. Just subtle hints of color here and there.

I did some testing with sandblasting on a couple pieces of wood, it’s a bit more aggressive with the blast media I had... it does add more colors to the mix though!
