I've never played a 50 Caliber but always heard great things.
One of MBs under-rated and little known gems imo :D

How do you like the DC3? I see them for sale now and then, wonder if I should get one to keep my F50 company.

You are so right on that !!

Had a mark 4, 5 & Express lined up that day to pick from...brought my v30/ t75 cab. Set the 50+ on it last & then did a moderate V on the EQ. Hit a crunch & then adjusted gain & 2 of the sliders & hit the leads..in 2 minutes. Turned it off & pulled my money out before he changed his mind.

The most agonizing half hour ride home !! So glad i played it last & on a cab i know will put me in the mix. I didn't like it on the Mesa recto cab & didn't scoop mids. Each amp that was being sold all had the mids completely missing. Guy looked at me weird when i brought the cab in cause he had the recto & orange cabs, All his guitars were in A.. brought a trusty SG in standard & dropped D quick to check bottom

It has its own thing going on, its nasty & tight but exactly what was searching for. When i ran the guitars through it..takes em all. It's not just a heavies amp..edge of breakup is sweet on this thing..

Noticing a trend..even on my Peaveys & Marshall's..the earlier circuits... that modern gain --sorta fizz is not there in comparison. Each newer progression of amps seems to introduce something my ears are not liking as much.

Just spent hour with it. Its tad darker but right there in the mix.By darker..not sure what i mean cause the v30 is spot on for this amp.I might just be hearing a 2x12 & 4x12 comparison i am not adjusted to yet.

It does southern rock right from the door...cleans up well & did get some heavies out of it. Its built like a tank. No prob gigging it..it gets loud. break comes early on it if needed..its why i got it. the 84's always have that small bottle exploding thing going on it seems but also a chimey vox like clean

lead players dream cause of how you can set it. takes pedals fantastic. Set gain low on clean & MV to suit or gain the clean up a bit & kick it into very tweak able progressive break up levels. I hear Tom Petty in this too set on clean. Not going to qualify it as a metal at all. But a good all arounder & def a lead players weapon cause of how many usable lead sounds can be set with the EQ being able to be run on the footswitch. You have a boost opton right there or anything you want that EQ to do on the fly

My first Mesa was a Caliber 50.
The Caliber 50 was a more straight-forward rock-oriented alternative compared to their flagship MK3.
Back in the 80ies there was no Mesa distribution in Germany . So I had to order mine directly from the States. I remember waiting for months for it to arrive.
I used it on some recordings and it broke down several times. Mesa was very supportive, though and repaired it for free. Nevertheless my trust in this amp faded over the months and I never played it live.

As a year-long Marshall player I found it very easy to dial-in good sounds with it.
But somehow this was the problem with it. In the end it was too similar to my Marshall amps.
So I sold it and bought a MK3 and a MK2B which were my main amps for two decades. Relieable, great-sounding amps with lots and lots of tones in them. Very difficult to dial-in, though.

I had to sell them some years ago and they really left a hole in my stable.
In fact I missed the overall quality and tonal capability so much that I had to buy a Mesa last year.
I got a custom white crocodile leather finished Stiletto Trident now. Cool, cool amp.

The 50 Caliber + with the EQ takes it into that animal territory. radical dif with it engaged, i sorta brings that classic mesa heavy tone. Cool on the Trident !! Bet that things rocks !!

In fact I bought a wonderful stage 1 Stiletto from the first model year and traded it for the custom Croco super-porno custom head Stage 2 from the last badge, recently.

Giant-killer. It is a souped-up JCM800 with the complete vintage Marshall catalogue incorporated.
A secrete weapon for all Marshall enthusiasts that yearn for an amp that really goes from vintage JTM 45 goodness to hotrod 80ies Metallica deliverered in true Mesa hand-built quality.
I have not explored all the qualities of this amp , yet. But it it is a real bag of great sounds. And it looks so incredibly gooooooood. The Lamborghini of amps, Imho.

The 150 watts are a great platform for everything Gilmour or 7 String.
I play it in the 50 watt mode and it is still ok for small clubs when played through my trusty Mesa 2x12 wedge. Incredible sound. A Marshall 4x12 will not do this for you. I know what I am talking about.
In fact I feel so much love for this particular amp I urge every Marshall fan to check this model out. It is everyting I wanted from a classic English amp but with a super boutique quality.

Here's an old Mesa and a new one.

The Express 5:50 I sold last year and will be replaced by a TA-15 this year.
I've owned the Mark v 25 four years now and it will never be sold :)

Oh Oh, 2 more incoming. Weird how it happens all the sudden. Had to drive to FL for a funeral & listening to all the songs...we hear the tone shift. Looks like mesa's on all those Marshall cabs fits my style. There is a tightness in the lower mids & can stack right on the bass live The EQ n the 50 Caliber+ is just such a weapon to me for dialing in..2 ways to really set the amp. Have done it with other amps..EQ in loop, but this particular one was like i ordered a custom amp for my needs. Love the Marshall's & very interested in these 2 in the mix together

I'd be missing those, too! I get to play my son-in-law's Lone Star every couple of months and could get used to owning a Mesa real quick!

I want to play too. This F50 is everything you'd want from a Fender or Marshall, and then some. IMG_20200620_162236.jpg

I had a coupla Mark Is, as well as a few DC-2s and an Express 5:50.

Used the Mark Is on quite a few gigs.

So why did I part with 'em?

No surprise to most of you, I'm sure...got tired of lugging around a 60 pound amp(not counting the road case when I was using it) just so I could turn the master up to 1 1/2. As you get older your back lets you know about those kinda things...
