I've always wanted to pick up a Matchless, but had no intention of spending upwards of $2k+ on one.

Found out not too long ago about their new SC Mini, which is based on their SC and DC models. Smaller, easier to carry, and most of all...cheaper!

Went through Lark Guitars in Texas (great guys by the way, check them out. they carry LOTS of great gear, including Custom Shop Gretsch guitars!) to find the color combo I wanted to match my Puffin.

The grille is gold, but a bit hard to capture unless in the right light.

    Here it is!

Very nice amp and guitar. I've been looking for a Matchless The Baby for a long time, but couldn't find one near me. Is that a custom shop Jet/Penguin or did you mod it? It's beautiful.

Thank you! It's a Pro Jet that I modded - Filtertrons, Bigsby, Penguin Armrest, and a couple small aesthetic things. The pickguard design came from Crooner, a member on here.

Have you played other Matchless amps? I had a Spitfire but had to sell for financial reasons and I miss it every day. When I sae the mini come out I thought it woule be the perfect solution for a low volume amp. A Matchless 15watt amp equals 30wat anything ither amp, and their 30 watt amps are as loud as 50 watt other amps.

Tell me how it sounds, I meed to hear the distortion on it.

Only played one Matchless amp years ago, but was very impressed with the tone. Looks great - congrats!

This is actually the first Matchless I have ever played. Before this, I was using a Vox Heritage head, which was pretty loud. This almost gets to the same level though, even being how small it is. I love it so far.

Just a Pro Jet with some mods!

Were Matchless and AJS the same company, David? I had a 350cc AJS for a very short time, and noticed that model for model they seemed to be very similar.

Yes, AMC were AJS, Matchless and Norton (also James and Francis-Barnett) until 66 I think when Norton-Villiers became a thing. The two were interchangeable, much like the unit 250 BSA/Triumph line.

Ah! I remember the Tiger Cub being very much like a slightly smaller version of my 250 Beezer.

All the unit singles were made at the BSA factory in Birmingham.. as were all the triples.

Thank you, that clears it up. It was rather like Standard/Triumph/BMC with car engines. It always amused me that I had virtually the same design engine in my A35 van, Wolseley 1500, Triumph Vitesse, TR7 and Daimler Sovereign.

And how I wish I had it in the Citroën I'm driving now!

Nice amp, I have a bad cat mini cat I bet they're incredibly similar amps.
I wish matchless/bad cat would make a bassman variant, although I'd probably have to live pot noodles for the rest of my life to afford it.
    Enjoy
