    Hi all,

I'm John, I'm in the UK, and I've recently bought a new guitar... My main guitar for the last few years has been a Rickenbacker 330 12 string, and I really fancied something with six strings. I'd unloaded a JV Squier Strat that had been gathering dust, (I'm not really a Strat person) and I had a bit of bonus to burn, so I went shopping.

I couldn't quite stretch to another Ric, and I fancied a hollow/semi hollow guitar as I used to own a DeArmond (Guild) Starfire which was lovely. So I looked about a bit, and a local music shop had a G5422TG....

Its a glorious thing to play, inspiring and other than a tweak to the truss rod, out of the box it's perfect.

Getting a case was a bit trickier, as it's going to be a gigging guitar, I needed something decent. And the standard Gretsch case is a long way from that - no neck support, no real structural rigidity, and a whopping gap to the back of the neck joint. It would keep the dust off, but I wouldn't depend on it for much more than that. After a couple of goes, I've ended up with a Hiscox dreadnaught case (Pro-II-GAD I think). I'd contacted them and they sent through a bunch of pads to take up the extra space for free. I've used Hiscoxes for years, they are good cases from a good company, and given the price in the UK, I can't think why you wouldn't buy one...

Here's a photo before the pads arrived...

    Stupid questions will doubtless follow....

    Cheers
    John

    Congrats, very nice.
I have one or two Hiscox cases myself. I prefer mine to be a tight fit though.

    Thanks for the welcome folks.

I did look for a tighter fit case, but the G5422s while the same outline as an ES-335 are about 1/2" thicker, so don't fit in those cases. I tried as SKB and a few others, and they were just too small. The headstock touched the case and the neck didn't sit flat.

I ended up contacting Hiscox, and this is what they recommended. And with the pads it doesn't move. I've tried holding it head down and shaking and it's solid. Plus the pads give a small amount of shock absorbing. Which is good.

    Cheers
    John

Hi John, welcome. Your new guitar looks very nice. Feel free to post a picture of your Ricky aswell - that would count as "other cool guitars". Hope NervousJohn isn't your stage name. :)
