I don’t want to go into details but I just lost out on a Labor Day guitar special because my sales dude stinks so bad.

Not only did I miss out on the guitar that I ordered, I got attitude for it too.

This guy has just always been the worst and never failed to underwhelm.

I like to shop there because they have great pics of guitars and always list weight which is very important to me. If the other places did that I would take my business elsewhere in a hot minute.

Anybody have a solid rep there who won’t pass the buck every time I might have an issue?

My sweetwater guy is the man!! Ask for Roq Martin. Aside from one Gretsch I bought at a shop in Kentucky I’ve been buying literally everything else from sweetwater since 2015 and Roq Martin has been my guy the whole time.

I bought a bass there in 2013 and Lindsey Becker was soon assigned as my rep. Three years later I bought my Casino Coupe. Didn't see the point in contacting her, I knew what specific guitar I wanted.

Earlier this year Sweetwater had an open box TC Electronic Plethora X5 on Ebay for $360. I "bought it now", but the next day I got a cancellation notice.
I wrote to Lindsey and told her my sad story and said if they had another X5 come up for that price I would like first dibs. She told me the Ebay sales were kind of a separate deal, but she'd sell me a new X5 for $360. And she did.

So, I've only had one interaction with her in nine years, but she did me right.

My main annoyance is that the first time I got a rep, I asked to put in my file "does not want to be contacted EVER". Blissful silence for a few years. My rep changed and I had to tell him the same thing. It's happened twice more but now I just block them since apparently they don't keep track of preferences.

I snagged a JV modified 50’s tele a few weeks back at full price. Then got an email about 10% off all fender last week. I emailed my sales rep there and asked for store credit. He just straight up gave me the 10% as a refund.

Ben Elder is his name.

Every SW rep assigned to me has been really good. I do my research and know what I want so their help is really not necessary for me. Maybe you unfortunately have been assigned a Millennial. I’d guess his anxiety gets in the way of giving great service. Ha.

After you got that deal on the Plethora, don’t you wish you contacted her when you were looking to buy the Casino? I wouldn’t buy anything at SW without getting my sales engineer involved, He’s saved me tons of money.

I don’t need any help either. I just want to pay for my stuff and they say call in to get your extra discount. I call in on Saturday and even today he still wants me to make more phone calls while I’m at work to fix 💩 that was either their mistake or things that occurred because he didn’t do his job in a timely manner.

@blueruins, Jon Mostacato is my Sweetwater rep for the last few years, and he has done well for me. I generally do enough homework that I have only a few questions. I talked with him just this morning about a semi-hollow guitar that has my attention. I couldn't find body dimensions anywhere, so I left a message for Jon, and as I said, we talked this morning. He talked with a Gibson rep and got right back to me with the specs I wanted. All this when he knows I am still in the deciding phase. He din't push me at all.

When I got the deal on the Plethora I was happy. I didn't give a thought to the possibility I might have saved $40-50 six years ago.

Last year I bought a Classic Vibe Jaguar bass and Rumble 100 bass amp from Musician's Friend. They knocked off 15%, from $730 to $620. I didn't try to get Sweetwater to match the price because, why? Besides, the bonus points I got from MF paid for a Neotech Mega bass strap and a nice cable.
This weekend Proaudiostar had a Fender/Squier sale. If I had only waited a year, I could have had my bass and amp for $530! I'm not losing any sleep over that "lost" $90 either.

All of these places have nice sales reps who want to make you a happy repeat customer. Sorry the OP got a dud. Sweetwater's huge advantage to me is being able to pick the individual guitar you want by weight or looks. I don't eat candy.

I agree that the ability to get detailed pics and exact guitar/bass weight is a great advantage if you need or want to buy online (which I do most times). But some sales reps are just really good, they probably do high volume and can afford to discount some customers heavily, especially those that buy a lot of great like me. I regularly get 25% off the MAP on most gear (18-20% on instruments) and I don’t have to build up those 8% MF rewards to get my next discount, I just get another great price. And I never have been called, and get emails about once a quarter. The discounts are well worth it.
