IMG_3353.jpeg Today I cheat with some bread. I have had zero carbs today but I will have a couple of slices of this once its cooked a good tbs or 2 of butter on each.

And what is better than fresh warm bread? One thing I really like is how no two loaves are the same. I might try to do a round one next and not use a bread pan.

Looks good. We have a good selection in the super markets over here, but nothing beats homemade.

Sadly I was too lazy to actually make my own dough. It is store-bought dough that I warm and raise. I have four more loaves left so once done if the family likes it enough I might make some from scratch. Sadly I am usually the only one who appreciates homemade over a quick meal out.

Over the last few days I made a couple loaves of sourdough bread. Baked today, not bad looking, good open crumb, tastes very good (dill, caraway, rye). I find it hard to believe that this is the second set of loaves that I have made from some sourdough starter that I dried and froze in 1992...

Home made and cooked in a woodstove oven.... best there is!!

If you are interested in making your own might I suggest "artisan" bread. Much quicker and easier than kneaded bread. Lends itself well to free form loaves too.

Just one of many sites to get started with. I do make artisan as well as "normal" kneaded bread. (Can't resist during the colder months when the stove is burning anyway....)

    cheers

When I was a kid, my Grandmother would visit for a few days here and there throughout the year.....and usually, during the winter, she'd make bread.....I remember she'd let me help with the dough, etc....and the whole house would smell like fresh bread....it was AWESOME.....she'd usually make fried bread dough and cheesecake as well.....man, those were good times :)

lol....the first time I'd heard of vegemite was in the Men at Work song......years later, I was visiting a girl who was a friend from college...her grandmother was from New Zealand....so I happened to see a jar of vegemite in her kitchen.....I was anxious to try it....... it was....not what I expected (or hoped for...lol). I'd actually like to try it again...I'm assuming that like Scotch, it's an acquired taste ;-)
