Hey guys, I got another project guitar more or less completed this weekend. Not totally done making changes, but it's a playable guitar for the first time in months. This guitar started as a MIM Blacktop Jazzmaster HS I picked up used at Sam Ash for a really good deal. I bought it specifically to work on as a project, so far it's turning out pretty good.

So far I sanded down the original sunburt finish, refinished in Crown Royal Purple from ReRanch, installed an American Professional Jag/Jazz bridge, and swapped out the pickups. In the neck is a Fender Pure Vintage 65 JM pickup, and the bridge is a TV Jones Classic + in humbucker mount. I only got a little bit of playing time on it, but it sounds pretty good so far. The middle position is out of phase sounding, which was unexpected, but a friend of mine who works in QC at the Taylor factory assured me I wired it correctly, it's just the way these two pickups interact. He suggested fixes, but I'm going to keep it, it's a useful tone to me.

Future plans include a Mastery Bridge, Fender Classic Gear tuners, upgrading the little things like pots/switches/jack, and perhaps a tortoise shell pickguard although I'm like the black more than I expected.

Any way, the part that matters... pics:

Thanks everyone. If you have the guitar in hand and look closely you can see that it's far from a factory level finish, but from a couple feet away no one can tell. It was really hard to get the finish consistent, plus we didn't have enough paint and couldn't get more due to Covid, so we just sanded and polished it as well as we could and assembled it.

    It came out looking stellar!

All these ReRanch projects makes want to take a stab at it one day. I’ve spray painted probably over 30 BMX bikes back in the day, to include tri color fades and all. So I imagine it be fun but with patience to do it right.
