Saw on the news some mountain top where they have a manned weather station 24/7. They recorder -105 with the wind chill. That's -76 C. And that was before night fall. Crazy!

Sounds like Mount Washington. It's warm up there for like 5 minutes in July, tops.
Yep, Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. I’ve hiked up there a few times during the summer and autumn. It’s the real deal.

These temperatures are not unusual for us in Germany.
I used to own a very nice Historic Series Gretsch acoustic that I used to store in the flap-tile of my livingroom.
The drastic changes in temperature made the top of the guitar lift!
I was very lucky that Gretsch took it back under warranty.
Lesson learned.

Just woke up, -12F feels like -38F

House thermostats set to 72F actual temp 66F

Front Porch an enclosed deck no foundation (Kids Lego/Video Game Room) thermostat set to 72F actual temp 47F

I might be getting old and cranky I don't feel like going to the pancake breakfast and auction at my kids school in 2 hrs in this cold. I'm sure my Eastern European ancestors just rolled in their graves hearing me say that. To them this is bikini weather 😂

Yup that's cold. It is another reason that I keep my guitars in cases, away from outside walls and the radiators. Good move!

On a side note, my least favorite weather is hot & muggy so a few days of brutal cold is good by me; it reminds me of my place in the universe. Of course, I am retired, don't need to work outside and I am fortunate enough to have a warm dry house.

In Oregon we aren’t experiencing anything as fierce as some of you northerners and Mainers, but it does raise the question of the risk of cold to guitars, and how to best protect them. I would appreciate advice on this In F degrees terms. At what temp does it become a concern?

I don't mind those temps but I have been on the east coast in those temps with winds blowing in off the ocean. That can get pretty brutal but the same things still apply, you have to dress for it! The best thing you can do is to, @Cryin_Caleb_Aaron, find a way to have fun because of it. You know like a fireplace and your significant other, some alone time, lots of practice or noodling etc. Maybe that is why I like winter. I can always find stuff to do projects playing etc.
